Josh Trank Teases An "Epic, Multipower" Battle Between The FANTASTIC FOUR And 'Doctor Doom'

The first trailers for Josh Trank's Fantastic Four haven't exactly been heavy on action, but the director teases a "massive" clash between the heroes and Victor Domashev/Doctor Doom in this new interview. Writer Simon Kinberg meanwhile weighs in on why the reboot might be a tough sell...

Between rumours of problems behind the scenes and the fact that the majority of fans would be much happier seeing the Fantastic Four back at Marvel Studios, the upcoming reboot has a lot stacked against it. While the footage in the trailers has certainly impressed, it's clearly taking a lot of liberties with the source material. However, in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Josh Trank promised that fans will see an epic battle between Reed Richards (Miles Teller), Sue Storm (Kate Mara), Johnny Storm (Michael B. Jordan), Ben Grimm (Jamie Bell), and Victor Domashev (Toby Kebbell). "Chronicle was all about the discovery and evolution of those powers," the director explains to the site. "This is like, ‘What if it’s a couple years later and it sucks?’ The audience should expect an epic, massive, huge, multipower slugfest. This movie is big. A lot of stakes."

Hopefully that battle won't be too similar to the one between the team and Doom in the original Fantastic Four movie. After all, this reboot does on the surface appear to share at least some similarities with that (Victor becoming Doom alongside the Fantastic Four for example). Regardless, it's this sort of scepticism and worries which writer and producer Simon Kinberg is all too well aware of. "I get the scepticism going into it because the previous movies weren’t very good. It’s a very hard title to crack." Here's hoping they've got it right! What do you think about all this?

You know I kind of feel dirty, routing for a comic book film with characters that I have grown up with to fail. I'd love to see a great FF film just not from Fox, would rather see them release the Roger Corman version.

Yeah, this would sound better if the movie was called Chronicle 2

@DrKinsolving - Man, agreed! Can't understand why he didn't just make a Chronicle 2. I'm hoping to be surprised by this movie, but just not sure at this point.

The sooner this movie comes out the faster it will disappear. Then we can all forget about it.

like i said before - Fox is hiding too much. There will be a probably 2 (or 3) major action scenes in a movie - first journey to the other dimension, Doom vs FF fight - but the only glimpse of action we could saw was Human Torch effects, The Thing dropdown, Sue using some kind of forcefield and Reed dramatically raising his hand. Not much.

This guy's a [frick]ing moron. This movie's gonna come out and the two previous ones are still gonna be better representations of The Fantastic Four than this crap. I Hope this movie bombs and this dipshit gets thrown out on his ass.

I get a funny feeling Marvel/Disney is gonna pay out a lot of cash to reviewers to bash this film so they can get the rights back and put F-4 on NetFlix...!

I remain cautious, but not optimistic. Either this film is really good and I want it to connect with the X-Men films, it's average and idgaf and want it to return to Marvel, or it sucks and idgaf and want it to return to Marvel. There are no in betweens.

I won't lie, I'll give a movie a lot of leeway. I'm open to most takes. You'd have to do something incredibly different that makes no sense in order for me to hate it.

For example, while I love Batman The Animated Series, hated the fact Bruce and Barbara hooked up. Dumbest thing that Timm did in the cartoon.

I say this because Thing is really the only Fantastic Four member I like and care about and I'm left wondering just what [frick]ing excuse would you have to not have Thing wear pants. I mean I think Thing looks fine but why the [frick] isn't he wearing pants? I feel like I shouldn't need to ask that but I am.

@LEVITIKUZ besides him not wearing pants being not-so-subtle homage to his first appearance in the Ultimates, these prototype suits are supposed to sustain their new found powers. How exactly do you sustain Thing's? It's weird but I'm fully expecting them all to suit up in their classics by the end. I mean, it's been basically confirmed at this point.

Movie looks dope.

@SkipKahless

"Doomashev" just like Victor Van Damme in the ultimate comics is a programmer. His programming pays homage to his later ruling of Latveria. The Ultimate comics explores the exact same dynamic that they are presenting here within this film.

You'd get Annihilus as well,which would be handy if Marvel Studios ever wants to do the Annihilation story for their cosmic heroes.

@MrCBM

I'm not really getting your logic there?

So, someone with superhuman strength, stamina, and resistance to physical injury shouldn't wear pants?
