BOX OFFICE: Fantastic Fail; FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot Bombs At Friday Showings

It appears as if Josh Trank's comments on social media last night have done Fantastic Four no favours as it's gone from a predicted opening of $50 million to likely being unable to hit $30 million, and that means Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation will likely beat it to #1...

Ever since it was first announced, fans have been saying that Fantastic Four would be both terrible and a commercial failure. Who would have ever guessed that they'd be right? We told you earlier today about the reboot's diappointing Thursday night opening, but things are now looking even worse for the movie if that's even possible at this point. According to Variety, early estimates indicate that it will struggle to hit $30 million this weekend, a figure which is well below initial projections of $50 million (which would later drop to $40 million after the first wave of reviews).

It's likely that it will go even lower than that, and between this and the 9% score on Rotten Tomatoes, Fantastic Four is an unmitigated disaster for 20th Century Fox. The budget was $120 million, and they spend tens of millions on top of that to promote it. The last major superhero movie to debut under $35 million was The Green Hornet, and 43% of critics liked that one! With Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation expected to earn around $27 million this weekend, it could that it will take the #1 spot from Fantastic Four. What are you guys planning on watching this weekend?

Fox just brought themselves 7 years to make another Fantastic Four film and people think they are gonna give the rights back because they made this shit film?

Considering how the MCU is rebooting Spider-Man 2 years after a shit film and WB is rebooting Batman 4 years after a successful film, the rights are not coming back.

That's not how business works people.

What hurts the most is that Jordan was a GREAT Johnny Storm and Register E Cathy was just Splendid in the movie. It was the disjointed plot and crappy ending that ruined the movie.

@LEVITIKUZ They might make a deal to get some of the characters back. Some of the investors in the F4 movie might push them to do it so they can recoup some of their loses.

@Leviticuz Fox is gonna reboot FF again? Let em! They're already a laughingstock. The property is worthless in their hands. Worthless! Let them bleed money out their anus like a bunch of morons. All this talk of the "New Fox". You can't blame Rothman now!
