Andrew Garfield Says He's "At Peace" With Being Replaced As SPIDER-MAN

Earlier today, we heard Andrew Garfield's gracious comments about being replaced by Tom Holland. While he had nothing but good things to say about the youngster, you have to believe being dumped by Marvel stung. Here, he talks about his tenure having "[run] its course."

"Sony Hack" emails revealed that Andrew Garfield probably wasn't going to be asked back for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 after snubbing Sony chief Kaz Hirai at a dinner in his honour, while Marvel never had any interest in adding the British actor to their Cinematic Universe. To find out that he'd been unceremoniously dumped from the franchise must have hurt (especially as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was obviously setting up future movies), but Garfield is taking it all in his stride.

"It's a mixed bag and it's a blessing," he told E! Online in a recent interview. "I got to do it twice. I got to meet incredible artists. I got to have a wild experience and now I get to let it go, which is actually a really lovely thing. I'm very kind of at peace with it. It ran its course." Whether he'll ever express his less diplomatic thoughts on how his last appearacne as Spider-Man turned out remains to be seen, but based on the recent Josh Trank fiasco, both he and Marc Webb will be keeping quiet if they wish to continue working in Hollywood. Regardless, Garfield remains excited for where Spider-Man goes next. "I can't wait to watch. I just can't wait to be a fan again and just watch and enjoy myself watching." Do you think Marvel made a mistake by not bringing Garfield back?

I bet he really cries himself to sleep every night. Can't be easy being kicked from playing the part of your childhood hero just because the studio is made of incompetent retards in suits.

I do hope Garfield gets a role in the MCU in some fashion. He's a good actor.

He was the perfect Spider-Man and an awesome Peter Parker. His chemistry with Emma Stone and relationship with Gwen Stacy was handled wonderfully. I hope Tom Holland does the role justice and continues the awesome banter and mischief that was present in Webb/Garfields TASM series

I actually warmed to him as Peter/Spidey and found that his take on the character was refreshing. Cried FAR too much for my liking though, but overall I warmed to him. Not really his fault that the dialog was plodding, and the plot itself was kinda all over the map.

Too bad.

A little surprised that Marvel is suggested to "never" want Garfield in the role though in their MCU. That snippet was a little surprising. Makes me wonder if there's not some already bad blood between them from some previous encounter or project?

Wasn't that "I can't wait to watch. I just can't wait to be a fan again and just watch and enjoy myself watching." line in the previous article about Garfield? Was another article really necessary?

It wasn't his fault those movies sucked. He's a good actor

Of course an actor is happy being out of a bad franchise.
Do you think any of the FF cast would be sad if they get recast?

Garfield didn't like being Spiderman anymore thanks to Sony, he had no problem saying how they [frick]ed up ASM2

Give Tobey Maguire a cameo in this upcoming Spider-Man movie; and maybe this guy, too.

Garfield was brilliant as Spidey. Him and Emma Stone were probably the best on-screen Peter and Gwen we'll ever see. I do wish I had gotten to see Webb finish his story, though.

I'm not big on the kiddie Spider-Man route that Marvel is taking, but they've yet to let me down.

I do feel bad for Garfield. Great actor but got stuck with Avi Arad, Orci and Kurtzman scripts.

Oh well, he has Scorsese's SILENCE, Mel Gibson's HACKSAW RIDGE both due for 2016 and Ramin Bahrani's housing drama, 99 HOMES, out this September.

@Jeight

A cameo is not going to lead to a spin-off or another movie with Tobey Maguire; it's just going to be a cameo; a special appearance from celebrity/known person, etc. All cameos "serve nothing".

When you have Emma Stone as your gf, who wouldn't be at peace?

well .. it's better that way. TASM 2 didn't deliver. Green Goblin, Electro motivations, using Chris Cooper for 3 minutes cameo, making Kafka a sadist (not to mention a man), even Gwen's dead felt forced. Not a complete disaster but it could be a lot of better movie.

It's kinda surprsise they did not go for third part. $708,982,323 Worldwide.

Domestic: $202,853,933 28.6%
+ Foreign: $506,128,390 71.4%

Still The Box Office Mojo don't know how much big the budget was.

If they would go for TAS3 and not fix the mistakes from TAS 2 it could end being a cluster[frick]. Or TAS 3 would end up being medicore like TAS 2 but Sinister Six would end up being a cluster[frick].

"run it's course?" You mean the thing that ended with promise of a whole other storyline, as well as a spin off series for the Sinister Six?

no. it seems they couldn't get even one villain right in TAS2 (although i wasn't mad about their Rhino intepretation so i would have to exclude him) and they wanted to go with Six villains ? Really?

I love how people talk shit about fanboys when they're fanboys themselves.

The hypocrisy is real, I tell ya!

@jerryblake Sony spent way too much on Advertising/production costs so TASM 2 Needed to make near a billion to cover those costs....

@jollem I agree a director's cut would be nice

I am SLOWLY warming up to the idea of Holland as Spider Man, but with shittier writers and an up and coming director........

Glad to see @LEVITIKUZ is nowhere in this article.....
