First Amazing Cast Photo For ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY Officially Released

That's right, Lucasfilm have seemingly ditched the "Star Wars Anthology" tag in preference of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. That's far from the biggest reveal here though, as we have the first cast photo, new cast members (including Mads Mikkelsen), and even story details...

At D23 today, Lucasfilm announced that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has begun principal photography. Godzilla helmer Gareth Edwards is directing the movie which "tells the story of resistance fighters who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star." The full cast has also been officially announced, and that consists of Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk (as a motion capture character), and Riz Ahmed. We'd heard about some of those, but there are a couple of new additions listed above. Either way, that's one hell of a cast for this Star Wars movie. 
 
"Rogue One takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and will be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar to the Star Wars universe," says Kathleen Kennedy. "It goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know. Gareth is such an innovative director and I’m so excited to be working with him and the extraordinary ensemble cast he’s selected for ‘Rogue One.'" I preferred Anthology as well, but it'll make a billion at least with STAR WARS labeled.

Mikkelsen and Mendelsohn in the same movie? Insanity.

Nolan and MGM knew to cast these guys when they weren't hot yet. Look at em now, the film community loves these guys.

Ya that title is pretty bad for a movie.

So the movie is basically sounding like Ant-Man in space with trying to steal the plans to the all powerful weapon. I don't know this just doesn't sound like a movie that needs to be made. This sounds like the plot to a story arc in the Star Wars Rebel cartoon not a plot to a theatrical movie. Also where the hell are the Bothans I thought they sent in a crack team of Bothan commandos to get the Death Star plans.

If they need to make this movie then we need some damn Bothans



I want a dirty dozen style Bothan commando team to pull off the ultimate suicide heist then you might get me interested in this movie.

It's gotta be a tough job coming up with titles for the anthology films that both sound pleasing and differentiate themselves from the saga films enough for casual audiences.

Kathleen Kennedy's comments would have been fantastic to hear had they not been released with this image. The entire pitch being given here reeks of no depth, and no originality, with the exception to the cast. It is suffice to say that these announcements have actually lowered my enthusiasm for this film.

I liked Anthology WWWAAAAAAYYYYYYY more, but meh, this is shaping up very nicely. Also Botham's had nothing to do with stealing the first Death Star plans, that was the second Death Star.

So does that mean we are going to get a film about the forming of Rogue Squadron in the future. How about Jaba's rise to power or the building of the base on Yavin 4 I mean these all have some level of importance in the original trilogy. That is how I feel about this movie it just seems pointless to make this movie.

having ROUGE ONE appear first differentiates it from the saga films and makes that pretty clear to even the most casual consumer.
