While season three of Arrow was a little hit and miss, it was hard to complain too much about Laurel Lance finally becoming Black Canary. In the video below, we learn all about how The CW series went about designing a unique look for the character, with some surprising revelations about where the costume designers ended up hiding the fishnets which have become synonymous with the comic book version's appearance over the years. I personally would be fully on board with a spinoff starring Katie Cassidy's Black Canary, but are you a fan of the character? What do you think about her costume too? As always, be sure to sound off with your thoughts and theories below.

I love her. She is way better than Felicity. Her character on the show reminds me of Kickass she takes a beating but has the will to get back up and keep fighting.

Laurel Lance is one of the show's greatest characters. Her arc on season 3 was the best, that's for sure. And i love her costume, but i would take out the jacket, or, at least, make the jacket more like the way that Sara used it. Soooo hyped for Laurel in season 4. Hoping she gets way more scenes, specially fight scenes :D
Also. Laurel = Helena = Thea >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Felicity and Sara

I think if you have to make parts of your costume glow in a BTS video like this then there is something wrong with the design.

Can we please drop the goth design for Black Canary please? It's [frick]ing ridiculous. Just replace her revealing attire with a similar looking top and pants and the leather jacket, oh wait, they did that with the version of Canary that wasn't even Laurel...

just glad they didn't have her be the perfect hero/fighter right off the bat. Even in the finale she still wasn't on the same level of Thea, Diggle, Roy, or Oliver.

@Dandy

You (and a lot of other users i've read comments from) forget that she has had training since she was little.

Episode 1 or 2 from the first season shows her taking out a couple of bouncers. I mean, they actually [frick]ing show you she can handle herself, even before being trained by an assassin and a boxer, but I guess everyone forgot.

Besides, she got her ass handed to her a number of times in season 3 by superior fighters, so it's not that ridiculous.

I appreciate the thought that went into it. Especially the stuff about the fishnets.

They did say and show in season 1 that Roy could handle himself when he took out like three muggers at the same time. He has lived a life on streets and he learned how to fight there, and with Oliver's training over a few months he became much better. I don't think that should make him a complete badass, but you can't say that he has no prior experience. It literally shows in season 1 that he does.

You could put Fishnets on a cow and it wouldn't make it Black Cannary but it would make a cow closer to Black Cannery than Katie Cassidy. Katie Cassidy is a horrible actress with 0 personality and nothing that they ever do with her will come close to one of the greatest comicbook characters in all of comics.

Plus she looks like a skeleton wraped in leather when she's wearing that costume...

I agree on that front. Thea would have been very believable of it weren't for just how badass they seemed to portray her. Laurel should have been given a season of training before she suited up.

I hope this season sees Huntress return and team up with Black Canary. Maybe it could be the start of Birds of Prey.

@Dandy

As someone who was concerned with how they'd handle Laurel's progression, they'd force her into the role and/or they'd rush to make her more capable, I think it they handled it fine. Definitely better than I expected and it could've easily been worse.

I appreciated that Laurel took her lumps and got her ass kicked more than a few times. And in most cases early on, when Laurel was helpful it was more about luck and not her being a badass. It was believable that training with Wildcat Grant for several months was helping her. And then training with Nyssa for weeks/months helped her even more. Obviously, she isn't and shouldn't be equal to Oliver or Sara, maybe even Thea, but with suspension of disbelief, it's easier to accept her progression and she should be more capable than she was at the beginning of the season.

Thea trained with Malcolm for six months, right? Malcolm is superior to Oliver, so she has a helluva a trainer. And what else are they gonna do besides train, ya know? haha. I mean they are in hiding. Plus, it was shown in season 1 that Thea was an accomplished archer, she had archery trophies all over her room.

And if we're really being fair about things, look no further than Oliver's flashback scenes. Originally, we accepted that Oliver was a badass because he spent five years on an island training and fighting for survival. However, now we know that's not entirely true. Sure, he occasionally trained and Slade Wilson was a great mentor/trainer, but how long exactly was he trained?? His progression seemed to be expedited a bit to "best" Slade in their flashback fight. And then Oliver leaves the island and isn't training, but doing missions for ARGUS/Waller. He seems like a more than capable badass in those scenes despite not much evidence to justify his progression, right??

Hell, Sara was with the League and it's safe to assume she trained more/longer than Oliver, is it not??

@Jollem That moment you realize that the fight choreography (talking about the flip fight) in Arrow is better than Daredevil. It doesn't even look like DD even touched the guy... LMAO...
