BOX OFFICE: ANT-MAN's Debut In China Beats GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY By 60%

BOX OFFICE: ANT-MAN's Debut In China Beats GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY By 60%

Most of us assumed that Marvel Studios would hold off on announcing an Ant-Man sequel until they saw how well the movie performed in China, but with Ant-Man and The Wasp now confirmed, their gamble is paying off thanks to a very strong start in the Middle Kingdom...

By the end of its run, Guardians of the Galaxy grossed an incredible $96 million in China, and now Ant-Man looks like it could end up doing similar numbers if early word from Thursday midnight screenings are anything to go by. The final Phase 3 earned $0.71 million, a figure which may not sound like a lot, but one that's 60% ahead of what the James Gunn helmed release took last year. It's too early to say whether Ant-Man's box office run in China could add another $100 million or so to the $409 million it's already taken, but it's clearly going to receive a fairly significant boost! Of course, with a sequel already in the works, this news doesn't really have all that great of an impact on the franchise's future, but it's still good news for those hoping Ant-Man will be around for a very long time to come in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie hitting the $500 million mark is something Marvel has to be hoping for anyway! Hopefully we'll hear about a DVD and Blu-ray release for Ant-Man soon too. For now, let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

In other news, FF4 had the most embarrassing flops in history when it opened in its last market, Japan, last weekend at number 6 with...$1,O4M.

It may end up with a mere $3M or lower in Japan.

Well deserved. Despite everything it came out as a strong solo movie and a really fun experience.

GOTG was a timeless classic that launched Chris Pratt's career into outer space... Intact it launched to NoWhere!
Lets see Antman launch to NoWhere!

not bad for a movie so generic, according to some trolls.

just because it doesn't have violence or is not gritty, doesn't mean is a movie for kids or a bad movie for that matter !

that take haters !!!

Ant-Man is like the movie Signs.

I will never understand why so many people like a movie that isn't very good.

It won't do as good as GOTG because it will only be in theaters for a month i think there is one month that China lets all the movies go in at once after they pass a quota of movies not from China .
