BOX OFFICE: STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS May Open To $600 Million Worldwide

Jurassic World broke box office records earlier this year, but it doesn't sound as if it will hold them for much longer! Analysts are predicting a record shattering opening for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and you can find all the latest details after the jump...

It's been a big week for Star Wars. When tickets went on sale on Monday night pretty much every website offering them immediately crashed due to the unprecedented level of demand, and The Force Awakens is already breaking box office records by selling eight times as many presale tickets than previous record holder The Hunger Games. The demand for tickets is in fact so high that screenings have sold out and some people are selling them on eBay at prices ranging from $100 to $1500. The movie is also tearing up social media too, with over 1.1. million Star Wars related Tweets sent out in the span of 24 hours between the 19th and 20th of this month. How will all this to translate to box office numbers though?

Well, analysts believe that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is going to easily sail past the $208.8 million mark with a domestic debut of upwards of $300 million and well over $600 million worldwide (which is also going to top Jurassic World's $524.4 million haul). Those are some incredible numbers, and it's not hard to imagine the movie going even higher than these estimates given the hype which currently surrounds it! Avatar won't hold that record too much longer...

I have a small theater. Doubt I'll have too much trouble getting tickets.

If not I'll just not see it opening day.

I'm not that worried.

Still that said, this movie does look pretty great.

@ComicsBornAndBred

I don't think the Avatar sequels will make as much as Avatar 1 or even crack 1 billion. The big draw for the first was IMAX and I have seen not many people actually excited for it.

I don't care how much money it will make, the damn movie must be good!! That's the only really important thing here. But the trailer and the teasers were good so far.

Thank god I have no interest in seeing this shit fest. I don't think I could even sit in a full theatre of Star Wars fans.

The overwhelming odor of stale pizza pops, mountain dew, and virgin tears would be too much to bear.

This has to be the greatest movie in the history of cinema, or the world will implode. That's a hell of a lot of pressure on JJ.

Everyone just go on the Thursday before. I do that and never have trouble. They say movies come out on Fridays but its always Thursday, they even have daytime showings for the Thursday where I am, a busy college town. Its funny because they always say the date is for a Friday the 18th, but you can see it on 17th. I understand people like to see it on the busy nights with a packed theatre, but I go on Thursdays, and still get pretty filled up if its a high anticipated movie.
