Is it okay to have a gay character? Absolutely. But why does everyone fee the need to change characters that have been around for decades? That just doesn't make sense to me. Bobby has always been a heterosexual. When he was created, that was part of who he was. Why change that just to do it? Make an awesome gay character from scratch. I guarantee they would be way more successful that way instead of changing the status quo.

That comment literally makes no sense if you are born gay how is that any different then being born a certain race. If you are saying that gay people have dealt with more adversity through history then those of different colors that is terribly insulting to the adversities all minorities have gone through. When they made Johnny black in the new F4 movie it was hit with controversy the same as it would have if he was made gay.

@MrPagBrewster I for one am perfectly fine with the whole Alan Scott thing, since it IS Earth 2 and all. Then again, I never had any attachment to the character pre-new52.

The idea of a younger version of ones self forcing the older self to admit they are a closet homosexual is genius. Using a well established character to do it is foolish.

That said, I think honestly the seeds have been there for decades. He's always been a womanizer, always been incredibly insecure.

His contentious relationship with Northstar, who also had a crush on Iceman, his "sister" like relationship with Jean, the womanizing and lack of long term relationships with women; if you were a writer and were going to turn someone gay, Iceman is the one to do it.

Still, I feel like "turning" an established character gay is lazy.

I kinda stopped caring about my favorite comic characters the X-men years ago. I just check in frequently in hopes that they improve instead they continually get bastardized. I can see how Marvel can make it logical storyline wise that Bobby is gay. He held it in all these years, dated women always but with the anamoly of facing his younger self and being able to voice those same feelings, it now comes out. I just feel like this is the gay agenda striking again though. Just like diversity for the sake of diversity. Make brand new modern characters, that would be "All new, all different!". Or have one Bobby straight and the other Bobby gay, hey anything goes these days, and people will still cheer for you right? I feel like they could have also taken an already known gay character like North Star who is lesser known and give him a spotlight bringing him into the forefront as a prominent member. Last time I saw him was in the X-men book that rescued Nightcrawler from heaven, I think Amazing X-men? So Now there's 2 gay IceMen, woop dee do! The character just seemed to get stale to me anyway . It's as if Bobby never grew up, always childish. But I guess that's his character. And now we know he is gay. X-men comics have gone down the drain anyways, so this can't make it any worse so whatever.

Yeah, look at all those homophobes! Like that one guy who said…uh…or that other guy who threatened to…uh…I don't see any homophobes in this thread…like…not even a hint. To be honestly I'd be very surprised if any of the people who have commented so far are homophobes, and I like to think that I know people on this site fairly well. Dumb changes are dumb changes, doesn't matter whether it's changing a costume or even making an established character gay.
