BOX OFFICE: THE FORCE AWAKENS Becomes The Highest Grossing STAR WARS Movie Of All-Time

Unless it had been met with overwhelmingly negative reviews from fans and critics alike, it was always pretty obvious that Star Wars: The Force Awakens would break all sorts of box office records. However, the movie is doing so quicker than anyone ever expected, and it's already become the highest grossing instalment in this beloved franchise to date, topping The Phantom Menace's haul of $1.027 billion with $1.16 billion (though with inflation taken into account, it hasn't beaten A New Hope). As of right now, the J.J. Abrams helmed release is still on track to beat Avatar's domestic record of $760 million, and many analysts remain convinced that it will have no problem sailing past $2 billion, even if it doesn't manage to reach $2.7 billion by the end of its run. As of right now, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the #4 movie of the year and the #10 movie of all-time, and it's going to keep on getting closer and closer to the top spot as the next few weeks go by.

To be completely honest, I've already paid to see it a handful of times and I can't wait to see it again.
I love it.
There's a lot I hate about it, but despite all of that I can't remember loving a movie with this much stupidity, in a long time.

On my third viewing last night, I noticed something near Luke that kinda looked like a headstone sticking up. Like someone is buried there. Maybe its nothing. But its STAR WARS and must be analyzed vigorously.

Maybe it's Mara Jade's gravestone?

Although I think they should probably keep Luke celebate in the new canon.

The success of this movie really rustles the jimmies around here. It's funny to see.

This was one hell of a movie. I need to go another 2 times.

@CinemaHero

lol That meme pretty much sums up the attention level detractors are receiving. Even more abysmal is the ones who break their necks to tell everyone how they were never interested in STAR WARS.

@InfiniteMonkey

Can't imagine who it could be. If it is a headstone it would most likely be of someone never introduced.

I do like how they threw in a few characters elements from the EU, such as Kylo Ben and such. Does he have his female good-guy twin in this universe?
Maybe it's Rey, maybe not.
I did notice that Carrie Fisher's daughter had Princess Leia's famous hair-do. Maybe she was meant to be Jaina?
Her character's name is Lt. Connix. Maybe she married someone named Connix? I know she married a guy named Fel in the EU, but a girl can marry more than once and this is an All-New, All-Different Star Wars.

Now JJ's comments about feeling free to pick and choose EU elements for the new films makes sense. We don't know what happened and what didn't. Maybe there are a few crossover characters, here and there.

They do have elements such as The New Republic and Luke training a new generation of Jedi, in there. Even Luke going into exile is from the later EU.

There were even a few moments in there that were straight outta the books. I remember recognising that moment when Han throws the guy into the monsters mouth from somewhere. And when they see that Rey has is escaping on her own, that was very similar to one of the books in which, I think it was either Jacen or Ben did the same thing.

So the EU stuff can give us a better idea about what's to come.
