When 24 was cancelled during its eighth season, it was brought to a close in a way which left the door wide open for the long talked about movie. Admittedly, the show spent its last few years struggling to live up to the high benchmark set by the incredible fifth season, but fans were desperate to see a conclusion to Jack Bauer's story despite how unlikely that has seemingly become as time has gone on. Well, Deadline now reports that Mark Bomback (The Wolverine) will turn in the latest, and possibly final, draft of the script in the next few weeks. Imagine Entertainment and Fox have five directors in mind as of right now - Tony Scott pulled out due to other commitments - and pre-production is expected to be a very quick process with the studio aiming to start shooting in April as soon as star Kiefer Sutherland is free. The movie will be produced by Brian Grazer, who will also serve as producer of the 2012 Academy Awards.

It's true that the quality of the show has fluctuated season to season. That being said, season 5 is hands down the single best season of any tv show I've ever seen.

@MrSpecs - HOW can you rank 7 above 1,2 & 3!!!! XD Spot on with Season 5 being the best though, my personal opinion concurs with your personal opinion on that one. It was astonishingly good, I give a lot of credit to Manny Coto.

as a tv show this is unique, but as a movie..how would they differentiate this from the Bourne movies?? and would Kiefer's Bauer be as badass on the big screen as he's been on the small screen..?? the story's gotta be the real selling point for this to take off. and they shouldn't be calling this '24', since the movie CAN'T be 24 hours long now can they...???

Lost me after season 1.

I´ve always liked Kiefer´s movies and his performances but i´ve never liked Jack Bauer that much.

Kiefer has always played great villains like Kevin Bacon.
I think it would be cool to see him as the main villain in some cbm.

He would be great Mirror Master or Weather Wizard or Captain Cold in The Flash
Or Carl Sands aka Shadow-Thief in Hawkman movie.

They had a tv movie in between one of the later seasons, and it was great, I think they kinda ditched the whole 24 hour gimmick with it. I didn't even notice.
