Irrfan Khan's ' Van Atter' Gets A New Name; AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Synopsis Confirms Sequels

Originally thought to be playing the villainous 'Proto-Goblin', Sony has now given Irrfan Khan's mysterious character a new identity, while the official synopsis posted earlier confirms the studios plans for a series of Spider-Man movies.

While we've already been treated to the stunning new promo images and intriguing character descriptions from The Amazing Spider-Man's official website (find them all HERE) there are a couple of details you may have missed. When it was revealed that Irrfan Khan would be playing 'Van Atter' in the reboot, many wondered if the filmmakers actually meant 'Van Adder' a character who briefly appeared in a Spider-Man comic book as the villainous Proto-Goblin. Well, it's unclear for the reason behind the change, but the site now lists Khan's character name as 'Dr. Ratha', a character who to the best of my knowledge has never been heard of in the comic books.

The official synopsis which was posted at the tail end of two of the above mentioned articles confirms earlier reports that Sony are already moving ahead with a sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, although whether this hints at Sony having a single storyline which will run through a certain number of movies obviously isn't clear at this point.

Like most teenagers his age, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. In his journey to put the pieces of his past together he uncovers a secret that his father held...a secret that will ultimately shape his destiny as Spider-Man. This is the first in a series of movies that tells a different side of the Peter Parker story. On July 3rd, 2012, the untold story begins. And starring Andrew Garfield (Peter Parker), Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy), Denis Leary (George Stacy), Rhys Ifans (Curt Conners), Martin Sheen (Ben Parker), and Sally Field (May Parker), directed by Marc Webb, The Amazing Spider-Man movie is swinging into theaters in IMAX 3D!


With a new trailer expected before the end of the month, this website update could be the beginning of a very exciting time for Spider-Man fans. I AM FURIOUS ABOUT NOT SHOWING THE FULL LOOK OF THE LIZARD! Anyways with Irrfan Khan;s role would be better as a doctor or something,Because as a INDIAN bollywood actor in a blockbuster movie is totally wierd. Not trying to be racist here.

The more i read about this movie, the more i think it could be an exciting take on Spidey!!

The first to Raimi movies were great, but the first one, always felt like it missed something!!

Even the costume is growing on me and looks great in the new pics!!

At least a little glimpse of Lizard, like they did with Bane looking over his shoulder. I know I'll being shiting my pants seeing a huge reptile jumping out of the dark! D:

This is one of my most anticipated movies, cant wait to see the lizard, but I am sort of glad we havent seen a proper HQ picture of the lizard, makes me more excited to see the film, we go into movies nowadays knowing exactly who everyone is and what their character will look/sound/act like I think that takes away from the excitement a bit.

Interesting... I was a bit unsure myself of the inclusion of Proto-Goblin- it seemed a bit too obscure. But I can't really see how they would avoid the Goblins or the Osborns for that matter at some point later in the rebooted franchise. It would seem silly to include OsCorp without some reference to or expanding upon to them in future films. A different take on the Green Goblin would be very welcome, even though Defoe did a great Norman Osborn, his Goblin was somewhat lacking. But it seems from this that the writers at least have some sort of scope/arc for the trilogy, which I think would be great. Some massive conspiracy involving his parents and some of his villians, which is revealed in the third one would be an awesome way to go about it. I doubt it would happen, but we can still live and hope :-)

I'm not terribly hyped for this movie but I haven't been given enough trailer footage yet to make me drool over this rendition.

I hope that Ratha is a modern day version of Mysterio.

I am not excited to see yet ANOTHER trilogy of Spiderman films. Soon as these movies are rushed and shoved out the door, there will be ANOTHER new Spiderman actor and director with ANOTHER reboot and ANOTHER trilogy. Shyt is already severly stale. Nothing about this movie has convinced me it will be worth my 10plus dollars. I will say this however, the whole.."In his journey to put the pieces of his past together he uncovers a secret that his father held...a secret that will ultimately shape his destiny as Spider-Man." thing opens alot of doors. I know fans of the 90's Spiderman series knows there are alot of unexplored avenues that we would love to see in live action with this particular take on Spidermans journey but still, not excited to see a "Spiderman Begins" movie. Soon we will have our "Superman Begins" as well, formally known as "Man of Steel". Way to Hollywood.

although the set pics look great and the casting seems on point the last movie that said there's gonna be a sequal before the movie actually got released was Green Lantern...and we all know how well that turned out...Dont' F*ck it up Sony!!
