The People report that Daniel Craig has been offered a multi-million pound deal to star in a further five
James Bond movies after 2012's Sam Mendes helmed
Skyfall. Producer Michael G. Wilson told the tabloid:
"Daniel’s been a terrific Bond, a superb actor and a terrific man. The fans love him and I don’t think there’s a better actor to play the part."
However, they may have jumped the gun a little as he confirmed that this isn't anywhere near being a done deal. Instead,
"It’s certainly something we’ll be discussing with him once we finish shooting Skyfall. Filming has gone very well so far and I’d love Daniel to surpass Roger’s record and do eight pictures. Daniel’s been an absolute pleasure to be around because he takes the role so seriously. There’s really no one more passionate about making these films work than him – he’s a film maker’s dream," he said.
The odds of Craig deciding to sign up for a further five movie seem highly unlikely. At 43, a deal such as this one would would mean he'd be committed to playing the iconic British spy for another decade or more. While it's possible we may see him back as Bond after
Skyfall, whether or not he will ever beat Sir Roger Moore's record is uncertain. Filming is currently ongoing and
Skyfall will be released worldwide from October 2012.
