The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

I am actually starting to like this. I must have a fever. When he is talking to the thug in the car. The little sarcasm and his voice sort of reminds me of the 90's cartoon. The costume is even starting to grow on me. Yeah i must be sick... I better go to the doctor.

I had my doubts when I saw the first couple of pictures and the teaser trailer. It seemed at the time that he was going to be sullen, brooding, and boorish. These newest full trailer show that, like the comic he does have a sense of humor usually as Spider-Man, revealing that it's not just his responsibility but also his release:) He does hold a lot of pain in, but that's any teenager:) I'm also happy to see more stunt work and less CGI for the fighting and swinging, it's subtle but if you look at a lot of the behind the scenes shots, there is a lot f high wire work going on and in the trailer. I still don't care for the changes to the suit particularly the lenses, but he still looks enough like Spidey. I am looking forward to this film:)

@REDBLACKSPIDER: But think about it. Think long and hard. Would a snout really work in a movie? The animations and movements when he formulates word, would look horrendous with a snout. Not to mention, certain words can only be formulated via our lips, I'm pretty sure Ditko's design is both practical, and the best way to represent the lizard in a realistic standpoint.

theirs no excuse for such shitty design in a movie

that being said i think they might pull this off, character wise it actually looks good

all i know is if it has a sequel they better make that costume look more classic or there will be hell to pay.

You know.... I love Spiderman but after watching the Trailer a week later (after the initial excitement has worn off), if you really look at the trailer again, the FX are not done well, the Lizard doesn't look how he should (I don't care what the reasoning is, snout and lab coat should've been non-negotiable).

I remember waiting years for Superman Returns... I saw it in Imax the day it came out and convinced myself that day that it was the best movie I'd ever seen. A week later I realized just exactly how horrific it was. I'm worried it's going to be the same with this movie.

I just hope that they are still working on the FX and that the Lizard won't actually look like what we're seeing because that would be tragic. IMHO of course.

@ThreeBigTacos...you are absolutely right. And if he had the snout, people would bitch about how cheesy it looks when he talks. I grew up with both designs, and I would be happy either way to be honest. But I think from a movie making aspect, his speech will look better coming from a Ditko inspired design. As far as Spidey's costume, I'm sure we will get a more authentic/classic design in future movies. This movie will do well at the box office, but I'm sure the only major complaint will be his costume. I expect to see a change by part 2. His shoes, I think, are pretty cool. I mean, he is a teenager and needs to use whatever he can find right? It just adds to the realism I guess. I mean, given what the suit is for, if any of us were to make a costume to use, I think if track type shoes could be used it would make sense to me.What was he supposed to use?? Ballet slippers? Steel toe boots? I think its a great approach to a teenage made costume. It's amazing what people on this site find to bitch about. Oh well, can't please everyone. I'm just SO appreciative that CBM's are getting made!!! It's a great time for us comic book nerds!!!! Enjoy it people!!!

@ThreeBigTacos is absolutely right....The Lizard looks fine...he'd look ridiculous with a silly exaggerated CGI snout...ANYWAY, I'm more interested in the script and the plot. But yeah, MovieMann, I do wince a little bit at the "unitard" line!

I wish people would quit bitching about the suit Spider-Man/Peter Parker makes a number of suits in the comics as for the having a lab coat on the Lizard that is ridiculous and most on here would have said it was cheesy. This is going to be a great movie and all the naysayers will be on the bandwagon afterwards.

My only real criticism is that Peter was always represented as a "nerd". Absolute stereotyped glasses-and-a-pocket-protector geek. I can't look at Garfield and get "social outcast". That guy could have his pick of chicks. That was something that I could appreciate about Toby's representation. I believed that he was a 90-pound weekling with no social graces and could only get a girl like MJ because his aunt set it up. I'm interested to see how the script portrays Peter in his 'true light'. It's like casting Brad Pitt as Bill Gates.

ironknight - 2/15/2012, 11:11 AM
In the first comic books "social outcast" is exactly what he is. He wears glasses and such, but he's not really so much a "nerd."
