Matthew Goode Expresses Interest In Big Screen WATCHMEN Prequel

The actor, who played Ozymandias in 2009's Watchmen, expresses interest in taking part in a big screen prequel but is unsure about the chances of Zack Snyder's involvement. He also comments on the Before Watchmen comics coming out this year.

While Watchmen wasn't a huge hit at the box office - possibly down to the fact it was so expensive to make - it left all but creator Alan Moore and a few disgruntled fans satisfied with the adaptation they received courtesy of Man of Steel and 300 director Zack Snyder. Following the recent announcement that the comic book series will now receive a number of prequels featuring the various characters (entitled Before Watchmen) the speculation that we might see the likes of the Comedian back on the big screen have already begun and was recently addressed by actor Matthew Goode. It seems unlikely, but who knows what will happen if the comic book prequels are a big enough success?! Many thanks to Digital Spy for the following.

"I've heard they are doing these. It's not Alan Moore or Dave Gibbons who are doing it, but they've got some of the best. Who knows what will happen with that? Whether it will be made into a prequel or not?"

"Zack would have loved to have his [Alan Moore] involvement, because the book is so revered and its one of his favourite things in the entire world. Whether Zack would be involved in it again I don't know, he's pretty busy. I'm quite excited to see what they come up with. In some senses, my character was the one character where everyone else gets a bigger chunk of back story. I'd quite like to know what was going on. See if I was right about some of the choices I made!"

out of all the people willing to return, it just has to be this asshole doesn't it? Worst part of the movie by far, which is a shame because I really enjoyed the rest of the cast. Who am I kidding though, probably still going to watch it if it happens.

What was wrong with his Ozy? The problem with Ozy was, like he said, he wasn't given enough backstory. I thought he played a very convincing "smartest man in the world". He was snarky and sly and he played the roll pretty much as I would have pictured the character to be while reading the book.

Silk Spectre was the biggest miscast in the movie. Just watched it again recently and Malin is a horrible actress.

I thought he was pretty good, but the decision to give him a slight German twang at the end when he is revealed as the villain was beyond stoopid.

No, he did a good job, so did the chick playing Silk Spectre, now the only one that was miscast was Spectre's mom, totally wrong choice, but had the best line of the movie, lmao!

I loved watchmen, there were some pretty CREAPY scenes, (hint hint) but I really liked the overall movie, and I'd love to see a sequal to it!

I am a bad fanboy, and only watched the movie recently, and I have NEVER read the comic.

I'll give you a moment to stand in shock. I HAVE skimmed it!

Anyway, it was very well done and well acted in my opinion. (Of course, I might not think that if I had pre-established views of the characters from reading the comic.) It makes me think Snyder really is a pretty good director, if he's given good material to reign him in. Kind of the opposite of David Goyer, who is a good writer if a good directer is there to reign him in.

The reason I REALLY liked the movie, however, is because of how in retrospect we see that the cold war was nothing like what that very talented nutjob Allan Moore thought it was like, and that freedom and capitalism decisively won...pending the next few years, of course.

If the prequels capture the essence of the characters, I'd definitely go see more movies. Fantastic characters.

I love Watchmen, now I wouldnt say he was the worst cast or miscast, but I would say that he was the weakest.

Personally I feel that Patrick Wilson and Jackie Earle Haley were the best cast

i loved this movie,
In saying that,it turned into a silly silly parody of super hero movies right at the end of the movie at ozymandias fortress o solitude, when they started fighting each other...

but the opening scenes with the comedian getting his ass kicked are some of the best movie scenes ever

anyway..this prequel being made into a movie idea is a definite no no
just wont happen.

Films seem to have a really hard time casting good villains. Maybe going forward only the dozen or so really great villain actors should play villains, and if they don't physically fit the role, just CGI in the body. They've basically been doing that when they de-age people, and its in the fine tradition of Darth Vader.

So, from now on, villains will only be played by Anthony Hopkins, Christopher Walken, Christopher Lee, Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem, Gary Oldman, Jack Nicholson, Alan Rickman, etc.

Hmm...the British might be over represented on the final list.

There's no need for a Watchmen prequel. Leave the franchise the way it is

Goode was fine as Ozymandias, but i think his portrayal would have been better if the character was a little less distant and mysterious. It's more the director's fault than anything though.

If any actor truly weakened Watchmen, it's Malin Ackerman, Which is a shame considering the complexity of the Silk Spectre.

Matthew Goode played a perfect Ozymandias. Everybody was good except for Silk Spectre[frick]

Didn't like his Ozy at all. It was like casting Tobey Maguire to play Bruce Wayne.

I didn't see much wrong with Matthew Goode's portrayal of Ozymandias, and I wouldn't mind seeing him again (as well as a more fleshed out version of the character).

Malin Akerman, on the other hand...it was like casting an automaton to play a human being.

I never read Watchmen and heard all the horrible things before I caught it on HBO, but I liked it. I was surprised considering all the bad press. Malin isn't great but at least shes hot. Carla G smoking as usual.

Super miscast on Watchmen but he gave it his best for sure. I just wish we had someone like Joaquin Pheonix play Ozy. He was cast as Oz in Greengrass's adaption that got the ax during pre-production.

No squid, no watchmen? That's so dumb. Hahah

The story is so much more and the squid wouldn't have translated good on film. Simple as that.

the problem for me about ozy was that he was too small! the character in the novel is this huge hulking man, and a super genius. he was just too small to play this monstrous role.

I don't get the hate for this film AT ALL

I just saw it and thought it was a really excellent film. The plot, tone, AND ESPECIALLY the filming style. Same with 300, love Snyders directing style.

Looking forward to Man of Steel with Nolans Story!!

I also thought Billy Crudup was great as Doc Manhattan. Ozy was the weak link in the movie for me too, probably the most miscast other than Ackerman. Obviously nowhere near as a good as the book, but not bad for the "unfilmable comic" Moore made it out to be.

No squid, no Watchmen? You morons do realize that a giant exploding squid would have looked absolutely retarded in live action, right? I'm glad that got removed. I thought it was stupid in the book. The one negative factor. A friggin SQUID?!?! This is why you guys don't make the movies. Cuz your programmed fanboy tools. Not film makers.

On that note, Juaquin Phoenix would have been a crappy Ozy, The Comedian and Rorshache were the best casting, Malin was the only truly "bad" casting, and Ozy WAS NOT a big hulking man in the comic. What did you do, read a Robiefeld version I didn't know about? Go look again.

I honestly don't understand the majority of you people lol. Goode was bad? *sigh* Okay... you guys bitch about EVERYTHING. He was damn good in the film and I wish there were more of him. He was smart, AND a bad ass. But you're right, he was "terrible". Laughs at the silliness of your comments. You gonna bitch about the buildings in the films being too building-ish next?
