THE MUPPETS To Get A Sequel Minus Jason Segel As Writer

The Muppets director James Bobin and writer Nicholas Stoller will return for a follow up to the hit 2011 movie, although co-writer Jason Segel won't have time to contribute. However, that doesn't mean he won't return in another capacity! Hit the jump for details.

Vulture reports that Disney has come to a deal with The Muppets director James Bobin and the film's co-writer Nicholas Stoller to get to work on a sequel. Unfortunately, How I Met Your Mother's Jason Segel's hectic schedule (as well as working on the CBS sitcom, he's also busy writing other films as well as starring in the likes of Five Year Engagement and This Is Forty) means he simply won't have time to work on the sequel. However, the site reveals that their Disney insiders have confirmed that he may still star in the movie depending on the direction of the Stoller/Bobin script. Are you looking forward to seeing another big screen appearance from The Muppets? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.

Meh, I have never been a huge Jason Segel fan, this is not so devastating to me. 'The Muppets' I felt was kind of boring, and not really how I remembered The Muppet Show from yesteryear, despite Segel saying how much he adored the show.
If the voice of Kermit says he wants nothing to do with your movie, maybe it needs a new writer(s) on board.
Looking forward to the new effort!

As for someone who looking forward to the movie and was all hyped up for it because of the excellent promoting they did...I found it to be a let down IMO. There wasnt really much that stood out, nothing memorable...so at this point I really dont care if Jason returns or not.

^^WTF you all know nothing about the old Muppets if you're insulting this new film

This new film is one of the best films I've seen in A LONG TIME. Theres something to be said about a film that makes you leave the theater with a big smile on your face.

The humor was spot on (Hey why wasn't my story in the montage?, travel by map, i think we just revealed a major plot point, MINAICAL LAUGH, DOHOHOHO, Lifes a happy song!, man or muppet)

Muppet 2011 film fantastic and it was pretty much because of the awesome Jason Segel. Really sad to him go

This affects me in the least...He was not the reason I went to see this movie, and he will not be the reason I go see a sequel if it's made..."How I met your mother" is a horrible show...most of the movies this actor has played in were horrible...so to not have him in a unsure sequel is no big deal...but if there is another movie made Pepe and Rizo need bigger parts...and another cameo by Jack Black would be awesome...as to the no memorable moments comment...you must have been smoking crack while watching this not allowing you to pay attention to the childhood memories that were being reborn on the big screen...I can't wait till this is out on DVD!!..

The movie was awesome. It was the spiritual successor Muppet movie and the Muppet Show. The Only reason someone wouldn't like this, is if they grew up watching the bad Muppet movies, like Muppets in Space...

Yeah!!! The Muppets live on!!! I will be buying when this comes out on DVD day one I am totally excited that they are rolling out a sequel. This is probably the quickest turnaround time from one Muppet movie to another.

You all do realize Jason Segel is the entire reason this film was even made. He wrote most of it and he nailed how the Muppets are. Say what you want about HIMYM or anything else, but I give credit to where its due and Segel made an excellent film

Couldnt they just hold off on a sequel until jason's schedule clears up?

Sucks to hear as Segel pretty much got this film made, and since it is the most successful Muppet film ever, I think he will be missed

Well, for the most part you can't.

Give it an "R" rating and let him do a scene with Miss Piggy with his schlong hanging out. Oh, wait, he's already done that.

Just give me my Muppets. I don't care much about the star, the format, or the medium. The human actors in any Muppet movie are interchangeable. It's all about the Muppets. That's why the movie was called The Muppets, not the Jason Segel movie.

I for one loved the movie, it was funny and really brought back the memories of the old muppets. but Jason Segal was important part in writing the movie and even if he can't be in the movie it would behoove them to get him in some type of writing compacity

BellHorneKing - 3/2/2012, 1:57 AM
Let's keep the human characters to a minimum next time. Mr. Segal is a very nice man, but he was in "The Muppets" a little too much for me to care.

He was as Shia LeBouf was to Transformers; a minor character that ate up waaaaaaaaaay to much screen time, when the only reason we're watching the movie in the first place is to see our beloved characters.
