Seriously! In an effort to tackle the crime ridden streets of Brazil, military police have hired a former soldier who will don the outfit of Batman while tackling crime.

The lads over at Bleeding Cool have spotted a story posted on Brazilian news website, Ovale. Apparently, Brazilian military police have hired retired soldier André Luiz Pinheiro, 50, to help combat crime in some of the most crime riddled city neighbourhoods. The twist? He happens to be a major comic book fan who dresses up as Batman for children's birthday parties and will patrol the streets dressed as the Caped Crusader.

This is all part of a program set up by UAPC (Advanced Community Policing Unit) and it hasn't yet been decided what exactly his duties will be, although local residents are happy with the plans. 52 year old housewife Fatima Ferreira said, "Children do not have space or where leisure and play. hehehe, it's just relevant to say that he'll not patrol the streets of Taubaté (city of the countryside of São Paulo state) or anything like that. He'll be more some kind of police PR, on campaigns called something like "movement for peace", helpiing the integration between the police force and that community.

But noone's gonna respect a Batman who wears the bat-nipples.
