Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which "Tributes" must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentor ship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she's ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Safe House is still doing well. I'm surprised.

Very good movie. Felt rushed though even at 2 1/2 hours. The events leading up to the actual games could have been a movie itself and the actual games a separate movie so there can be more added in and more character development. But it was still a very good movie. Can't wait for Catching Fire.

Damn this didn't even come close to beating The Deathly Hollows Pt2 weekend box office record.

The Avengers is also way better than this crap.

I'm glad John Carter is doing so well overseas. I wish it were doing as well over here. Disney dropped the ball in marketing big time. Why not even one ad that said "From the creator of Tarzan" at least?

magma123 - 3/25/2012, 11:30 AM
WOW :O The movie has 214 million in the first weekend! Damn! But I have a feeling this movie will drop like 75% the next weekend as all the tweenies have already seen it, just like twilight. And the movie dropped major between friday and sunday.. But who gives a shit? 214 million is almost 3 times the budget.

And about John Carter, it has reached 235 million wordwide now. Pretty good for a movie, except its half of what this movie needs.. :(

@Lilvic92 LMAO you're comparing the box office total from the ending of a 10 year long franchise to a non-sequel movie. You lost me right there. BTW, Deathly Hallows Pt2 made only about $15 million more than HG and the first Harry Potter movie made just $124 million its opening weekend.

I feel pretty confident about the Avengers now. So far I've seen like 3 movies that have shown the trailer and all of them I can hear people in the theatre say "that's gonna be badass" or can't wait to see that"
Only about a month people and itll be here!

@Sanderman dude they had the best previews last night at the Hunger Games. Spider-man/Avengers/Snow White and the Huntsman/some comedy, but the best part was at the end of the Breaking Dawn Pt.2 trailer some dude behind us at the top of the theater goes "boo!!". Everyone laughed pretty hard.

Deserved--good for HG.
Bodes well for Avengers money. My all time hope is for a CBM to topple Titanic and heaven forbid we have to have a re-release just to make sure Titanic keeps ahead of the pack.

I doubt this will be as frontloaded as Twilight as it appeals to a slightly broader fanbase, I doubt it will have as strong of a drop next weekend as TDK, but something along the lines of 60% would be likely.

about John Carter, it will get 200$ internationally next week.

hopefully it surpass the 250 mark in its final weeks.

How did the Avengers get into the conversation ? Not even the same Genre of movie and everyone will have seen Hunger Games by May so there is no competition in terms of Box Office.
I'm a huge Avengers fan but my automatic reply to every article isn't "So what Avengers is better!"- Is there now a battle going on between Hunger Games and Avengers ? I know of the Nolanites vs The Marvelites but I wasn't aware of a Hungerites vs Marvelites.
What happens next week when a Wrath of the Titans article is posted ? "Ahhahaha so what Avengers is better or Who gives a frick Dark Knight rules !!"

Damn...this movie breaks records and the haters are still attacking it? If you didn't see Hunger Games this weekend two things are absolute...

1. You're talking out your ass cos if you haven't seen it you can't know if its a good or bad.

2. Individually, you mean nothing in the scheme of things since it still made over $214 million world wide without your contribution.

Hunger Games > haters
