As well as providing us with the two-part video interview above,
Tbreak has highlighted some of the most interesting parts of their chat with the writer, including the fact that the found footage movie we all saw back in February actually exists in the sequel.
"Small spoiler - the movie you saw (Chronicle) in the sequel, is a thing. That edited footage … is a thing. So it’s not like ‘we found this footage after this kids died’. You can’t deny cars being thrown in the air in Seattle. You saw all those helicopters. The world changed. That’s the end of ‘Chronicle’. And things are going to be different now. They can’t possibly cover up what happened."
That won't be the only link to the first film. It turns out that Matt (Alex Russell) will return in the sequel and that life won't get any easier for him.
"I loved Matt, and I felt really bad for him because I understood just how emotionally lazy he is and how he doesn’t really do what he’s doing. And that’s why I’m putting him through hell in (Chronicle) 2."
As we already know, director Josh Trank is now in great demand after the success of
Chronicle and is currently linked to both Fox's reboot of the
Fantastic Four and Sony Pictures' Spider-Man spin-off,
Venom. Unfortunately, that means he won't be helming this planned follow-up.
"Probably not. Josh is all over the place with other projects. I’m also all over the place with other projects, but ‘Chronicle’ is really my baby. Josh will probably be involved in some respect but right now I just want to get the script done."
What do you think about the writers comments? Are you disappointed that Trank won't return to helm the sequel? What would you like to see in
Chronicle 2? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.
