Chris Zylka Talks More About Playing Flash Thompson In THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

The actor discusses his take on Flash Thompson in Marc Webb's upcoming reboot, revealing that this version the character will be fleshed out a fair bit more than the version we saw in 2002's Spider-Man.

In an interview with MTV Splash Page, Chris Zylka has revealed that like his co-star Andrew Garfield, he too is a long-time fan of Spider-Man and turned back to the comic book when he won the role of Flash Thompson in The Amazing Spider-Man. "I definitely read the comic books and got as familiar with the comic books as possible. I was always a fan of Spider-Man and most superheroes. There aren't a whole lot of little boys out there that aren't."

As for the Flash we'll see in the reboot, it sounds as if we can expect a far more fleshed out version than the minor role the character played in Sam Raimi's take on the franchise. "I just really tried to delve into 'why'. Why does Flash do this? And to try to show that to the audience a little bit more than just beating up on Peter or just being an adoring fan of Spider-Man. And maybe showing the backstory a bit more to the character, why he's a bully and stuff like that." He adds, "[This take on Flash] is maybe showing why and also trying to show why you don't have to be a bully. Just show that area where it's like, 'Oh!' You have an 'a-ha' moment in your life where it's like, 'This isn't cool. Why am I doing this?' Hopefully that plays well. We'll see!"

What do you think about this take on the Flash Thompson character? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.

I'm starting to get nervous about this movie... i want to love it, but that 90 minute run time scares me...

I do like the idea of having him realize that he's being an a_ _ and realizing he needs to grow up...

@Gusto: lol, love his name tag.

I did not think the 90 mins was confirmed, I though it was speculation.

Yeah until I see an official release from Sony or whatever, I'm not going to believe that it's only 90 minutes.

^^ I agree 100%. Haven't watched those shitty Raimi movies since I heard about the reboot. Marc Webb and Garfield understand the character. Raimi took too many shortcuts and that's what screwed up his crappy movies. Peter barely had any development. I really don't think I ever really cared for him that much, because by the end of Spiderman 2, following the scene were Harry finds the Goblin lair, I honestly forgot all about Parker. So, character development and adding emotion atop other qualities is surely important in films. Raimi clearly didn't understand that. His mind was stuck on the 60's version of Spiderman whereas the rest of the entire planet had moved onward. - - But anyway, July can't come soon enough. Can't wait!!!

Love that picture atop the article by the way. Can't wait to see Peter beat the shit out of Flash. Pretty much represents how I feel about bullies and how much I wanted to knock out so many punks that bothered me at my old school.

Loving everything I hear about this movie, and that trailer needs to come now. But if it's really 90 minutes, i'll get really mad. This isn't a freakin' romantic comedy, it should not be 90 minutes..

That's good to hear.

And I doubt that the 90 min. running time is legit. If this film will be more character based than the other Spider-Man films, it should be at least as long as the first two movies.

True dat.

I call BS on the 90 min thing. (not to mention the ridiculously outdated cast and synopsis)
