KAPOW '12: Gareth Edwards Offers GODZILLA Update; Nacho Vigalondo Talks SUPERCROOKS

Gareth Edwards offers up a very brief update on the status of Godzilla, while Supercrooks Nacho Vigalondo writer and director talks about working with Mark Millar and reveals how progress on the adaptation is currently going.

Talking at a special director's panel at the Kapow! Comic Convention in London today, Gareth Edwards (Monster and Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes) offered the following updates on two big projects they're tackling. For Edwards, that's a remake of Godzilla, while Vigalondo is working on a big screen adaptation of Mark Millar and Lenil Yu's Supercrooks. They were joined by Kick-Ass 2 writer and director Jeff Wadlow, and you can find his comments on how work on that movie is doing by clicking HERE.

"It's going great and I'm genuinely excited about it. We're just working really hard with Legendary, who have been fantastic. Thomas Tull has just been an absolute pleasure and nothing like the experience they warn you about when you go to Hollywood. I can't say much other than I hope that we'll have some proper news soon. So you won't have to wait too long at all."

"Well, we are in the worst part of the whole film making process which is waiting. We spent almost a year working on the script and on different drafts, going back and forth trading emails with the production company and everything. I had this lucky chance of writing with Mark and so I feel like, it's a strange feeling, because at the same time I feel like a lot has happened, but at the same time I'm so deep in the project because I've been writing all the sequences, all the dialogue with the creator of the comic book. He was so nice to me that he decided to include me as a co-plotter in the comic book because of the kind of ideas we were drafting for the movie. I feel really honoured. I've been a big fan of Mark's since the 90s and since the very first comic books from Mark which were edited in Spain. I'm a fan."

They better not impede the production of the new Godzilla--I want to see if Gareth Edwards is true to his word.

Well okay then, basically no new info whatsoever. And the 98 film was awful.

98 Is a guilty pleasure for me. I think because of the nostalgia factor. It's a really good monster movie, but bad Godzilla movie.
Destroyer14
Destroyer14 - 5/19/2012, 4:17 PM
The 98 film had some of the corniest writing I've ever seen in a blockbuster.
Destroyer14

I'm the biggest G fan on this site, the 98 film not only used the name in vain, but had some of the worst written characters in a blockbuster.

@Destroyer14: as far as fan obsessiveness goes...I could easily go toe-to-toe with ya mate. But I agree with you about the 98 film. It's like Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin's brain trust for that movie was a troop of circus clowns.

I was hoping for a little more from Gareth Edwards on this...well at least I know it's still getting made. This long spell of no news had me a little worried for a while.

that's a pretty bold statement,i know destroyer14 better than i know you so i really don't know how big a fan you are.

@Marvel72: Except for Godzilla 1985 (first movie Godzilla I saw) I watched every Godzilla movie from the Heisei series in Japanese without subtitles over and over. As a kid I saved my allowance so I could pay various people to get them from directly from Japan. It wasn't until about 1998 I found about the bootleg videos with subtitles

I hope they get this new Godzilla film right. It should have a serious tone, similar to GMK Dai Kaiju Sogogeki. I saw that twice in theaters in Japan. My exact thoughts were, "this is a how a Godzilla movie should be done."

I hope this updated Gareth Edwards Godzilla films brings justice and awesomeness back to the King of the Monsters.

It does me good to see such dedicated fans on this site.

And I bet none of you has spent over a $100 on a single Godzilla figure. ;)

sorry i may of offended you with my comment,it wasn't meant to be but when i read it back i thought it might.

that's cool mate,i've seen a few but not all of them by the sounds of things you do sound like you're really into it in a big way.

i wouldn't mind seeing all of this one.

I really enjoyed the movie Monsters, so I'm looking forward to see what Gareth Edwards does with Godzilla. And Supercrooks had me hooked from the first issue, and I would love to see a movie based on that, even though I've never seen any of the directors work, but I've heard good things.

@Marvel 72: I don't offend easy..and nothing you said even smacked of attitude anyway, so don't worry bro.

@Destroyer 14: nope you're right I never did spend that kind of money on a Godzilla figurine. That honor is all yours my friend...

@Marvel 72: if you want to watch King Kong vs Godzilla, I think all you have to do is search through YOUTUBE. I remember watching the whole movie on it one night. Though I can't remember if it was in parts or whole.
