KAPOW '12: New Artwork From AVENGERS VS. X-MEN Sees The Return Of Charles Xavier

Unveiled at the Avengers Vs. X-Men panel, we have a new piece of artwork by John Romita Jr. from issue #5 which sees the two teams facing off on the moon, while Olivier Coipel takes on issue #6 and reveals a very different Marvel Universe and the return of the Immortal Weapons.

Joe Quesada, C.B. Cebulski and Kieron Gillen hosted an Avengers Vs. X-Men panel at the Kapow! Comic Convention earlier today and revealed the following artwork from Avengers Vs. X-Men #5 and #6. As you can see, the two teams face off once again as the first act draws to a close, while Olivier Coipel's pages from the beginning of the second act not only reveal the return of the Immortal Weapons and Charles Xavier, but also what appears to be a very different Marvel Universe...is that a prison the Avengers are being kept in by the X-Men?! Stay tuned for highlights from the panel later today.

The story so far is good but, the lack of phenomenal artwork holds it back from being great. The artwork shown so far for the remaining 6 issues of the series looks 10x's better than the first half and I hope it increases the impact on the story like great artwork should, for example, like Steve McNiven did for CIVIL WAR. JR's artwork worked for KICK-ASS but, I'm just not enjoying it for AvsX at all, its way to childish and cartoony for a series that is expected to change the MARVEL UNIVERSE.

Story has been about 50/50 to me so far.
Some good moments {Colossus vs Red Hulk}, and some rather poor ones {Luke Cage going toe-to-toe with Namor UNDER WATER?}

But the last issue where Wolverine just up & decides to not kill Hope? The same guy who turned his back on both the X-Men AND the Avengers because he was so god-awfully driven to kill this girl..... he just up & decides "Naaah, I changed my mind..." with the lure of a few unfrozen BEERS??

Poor storytelling.

I like this series. I haven't been reading X-Men so I have been wondering where Charles was. But if you haven't read these the storyline in my opinion is great but the art is only decent at best.

Well Grappler your officially entitled to that opinion when you've read at least one issue until then crawl back under your bridge. Still can't understand the satisfaction some people get from trolling and spreading their negativity smdh

Intruder I would recommend picking it up. Story isn't any where near as bad as the haters try and make it out to be. Art needs work but anyone that has read it can tell you the storyline is worth the $4 US for the issue

And the way Wolvie played Hope was good. SPOILER

I liked that he brought in the team instead of killing her in cold blood while she was sleeping

Olivier has such a great style and his art is far superior to JRJR, why wasn't he allowed to do this from the start??????

@ CrimsonComedian and TelaVision ---

I think you're missing what I was driving at.

Seriously ---- Wolverine was moving heaven and earth, Avengers and X-Men... NOTHING was standing in his way to kill Hope. Fought Captain America, defied everyone, etc.

So what happens when he's there in the snow and ice getting ready to launch himself at her? She says "Hear me out.... I've got beer..." and he says, "Okay, Kid. I'm listening."

That by itself was a "Huh??" moment.
Cap wasn't good enough for him to listen to? Captain America?? Years of experience, proven leader, comrade-at-arms.... and he just says screw you to Cap... but on the whim of a few warm beers he decides to listen to the very person he thinks is destined to destroy the planet?

Bogus.

And on top of that, her master plan was "Take me to the Moon?"

The moon. The place right next door to Earth. A two minute walk across the park for Phoenix..... and her plan is Take Me To The Moon as if that would negate the Phoenix-threat in Wolverine's eyes if she was truly destined to destroy the planet.

And he agrees to this.

AND he has the chance to do her in while she takes a nap sitting right beside her.... but instead he calls the Avengers to intercept them so... what..... so the fighting could continue? He knows the X-Men are gonna be there, and he knows the Phoenix is gonna be there soon.

What was the reasoning for him going along with it -- if his plan was to betray her to the Avengers ANYway. Which he did. With the promise of more fighting and confusion.

So. All I'm saying is that this was poorly reasoned logic for a master tactician who feels on a gut-level that this girl is a threat to the world. I mean, that's what he's been thinking for all this time, right?

A few beers? Seriously?

I'm hoping for better cohesion in the 2nd act. So far it's just been so-so. There have been much better cross-over events in the Marvel Universe than this one so far.

Haven't been following this event but I've been hearing bad things and Namor losing to the thing under water?that drew me further away from this!At least get some writers who know these characters geez..

@Nightmare7 --- that's been my main concern for years.

They keep getting these younger and younger writers, and sometimes they write the characters so poorly it seems that they've only read up on the characters in the Handbook of the Marvel Universe.

Dear Marvel: as a prerequisite for beginning a run on a new book, please insist that the new writer take a week off and read the entire, yes, ENTIRE run on a series so that they can flesh out the characters, their powers, their motivations, etc.

Brian Michael Bendis did a STELLAR run on Daredevil.
Joss Whedon's run on Astonishing X-Men was superb.

Hell, they cancelled John Byrne's X-Men: the Hidden Years? That stuff was great! And now they're doing a NEW "x-men" series where Wolverine created the first team?? I was surprised when they said this idea came from Neal Adams. You'd think with his experience he'd know better.
