Kevin Feige Says IRON MAN 3 Won't Tackle Tony Stark's Alcoholism; Teases 2014 Movie

The Marvel Studios President discusses Tony Stark's alcoholism, the end of Robert Downey Jr.'s contract after Iron Man 3, the chances of seeing Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner turning up in the threequel, and the 2014 movie which features a character, "outside the Avengers' world."

Ever since Disney bought Marvel Studios, the chances of the studio tackling Tony Stark's alcoholism have seemed slim. He got drunk in 2010's Iron Man 2, but that's about as close as we've come to seeing "Demon in a Bottle" on the big screen. When Empire Magazine quizzed Kevin Feige on the chances of seeing this issue tackled in Shane Black's upcoming threequel, he said: "He's not an alcoholic in the movies. Maybe one day that's a deeper story, but we're not going to do it unless we can make it a full-focused plot."

As for what we should expect from the movie, he promised that while it may not match the sheer scale of The Avengers, it WILL be the best of the trilogy. "It's a fool's errand to continue to try to top spectacle. We don't equate bigger with better. It's Tony's most personal journey since he was trapped in a cave in the first half of the first movie, but it'll also have the largest spectacle of any of the Iron Man movies." Of course, this instalment is the last in Robert Downey Jr.'s current contract. Will we see him return? "I hope we will see more of his Tony Stark in the future, but the focus right now is on Iron Man 3."

When he was once again asked whether we should expect to see Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner turn up in Iron Man 3, he said no, but promised the following. "We will see the Ruffalo Hulk in future. I don't know when or how, exactly, but he's an interesting character, and so many new avenues have opened up. But now in the movies, who's gonna pop up where? You're never quite sure." Most intriguing however were his comments on the mystery 2014 movie. "Our next step," said Feige, "will be to introduce a character outside the Avengers' world." Hmm...

I think, unfortunately, he means Ant-Man. "Outside of the Avengers world" could mean non-continuity and I think Edgar might want to have this be a film that is not in any way reliant or even in any way connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yep, I think Edgar Wright could indeed be getting too big for his britches.

sounds like Dr. Strange to me...maybe something n Thor 2 leads to the Dr. Strange movie, wasn't the Eye of Agamotto in Odin's treasure Vault?

I mean pretty much any movie they could do would be at least a little bit connected to The Avengers and would definitely be connected to the same universe, right?

Spidey91@ I think that was probably the eye of Odin. It floats around, tells stories of original red-headed Thor and is a source of special power.

I'd rather have Tony's drinking be fun instead of depressing and dark.

Dr.Strange is beyond LAME!!! His outfit is LAME. Story is LAME. Sorry, I just don't care for that character. There are too many cool superheros for us to have on the big screen. The whole "magical" bs is for worlds of Potter,LOTR, etc.

HMMM I am sure Disney will not even come close to making a dark CBM in the near future, leave that to Warner Bros and Batman. But if they do go to that direction please introduce Dr. Strange.

I don't know why people want demon in a bottle so much, the story isn't THATTT great, its good, I have it here and it has tony doing shit drunk, and is all Justin Hammer's fault, tony has some fight with some of his villains, save some people while he is drunk and has personal issues, not sure if it could be translated to a movie like the comics, a movie would need a solid story and demon in a bottle as a bg

"A" character. Unless he's referring to Star-Lord as the primary character of Guardians of the Galaxy, I assume he's referencing Doctor Strange, unless Black Panther doesn't truly count as an Avenger.

btw, the other character could be Punisher, or Blade, or Iron Fist.

Wright getting too big for his britches? Naw. If Marvel doesn't want Pym to be part of the Avengers universe I have no problem with Wright making Ant Man his own thing.

Wright is 3 for 3 in my book.

Shaun of the Dead
Hot Fuzz
Scott Pilgrim.

4 for 4 if you count his involvement in Tintin.

agreed. people want a multidimensional character. iron man 2 fell flat for me that reason...it stayed too much on the surface when it couldve delved much deeper.

oh and i was hoping the secret movie would be nick furry or black widow and hawkeye. Maybe Marvel has the rights back to some franchise we don't know of yet. ?

I don't see how a Guardians of the Galaxy movie is going to work. A CGI raccoon with a laser gun and a bad attitude and a CGI walking talking tree fighting to save the universe. I'm sorry but that's just going to look stupid.

I'd say that they'll do Dr. Strange. I was kinda hoping for Guardians or Inhumans though. Nothing against Strange though. I would love a Doctor Strange movie. :D

Although they need to do an Antman and Black Panther movies very soon! Could one of them make it into the winter in 2014? Or perhaps both in 2015?
