In the distant future, two superpowers control Earth and fight each other for all the solar system's natural resources. When one side dispatches a team to a distant planet to terraform it for human colonization, the team discovers an indigenous race of bio-mechanoid killers. Ridley Scott, director of 'Alien' and 'Blade Runner,' returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

...i just watched all four. very good! you know, i really really really believe that charlize theron is another android in this film, but they never mentioned it to us. really, look at her! the hair, the face, the way she talks, moves and dressed. just like the android played by michael fassbender...

I'm glad the early reviews are good, but the dialogue seems a little TOO edited. Michael Fassbender(once again) seems to be the biggest talent. What made the first Alien so good was its subtle use of Stanley Kubrick's style mixed with true horror. This looks great and I'm happy, but the Kubrick style pacing seems to be absent.

@miguelus, good call. Perhaps we'll see an android showdown? That would rock some shit

@monkeyballs3, yeah he seems a bit more like Ash and not Bishop, which would make sense in that it's Ridley Scott and not James Cameron. If what you say is true about the editing, I am very excited. I'm so glad it's apparently good. I was worried.

The company knows more than they're letting on. If it ain't Weyland Yutani, then I'm wondering if it's Yutani that has intercepted this mission, via Vickers and her David 8 droid.

I've just seen it and it's all over the shop structurally. It doesn't know what it wants to be and it certainly is not as amazingly moody and atmospheric as "Alien" and by the end it almost turns into an alien invasion film when in fact it started as this very interesting archaeological quest. you have no idea where these creatures come from, what they want, nor do you care after a certain point. It LOOKS great, some of the dialogue is quite funny but often clunky. Certain characters are endearing, others are there for no reason and some are quite annoying. Noomi rapace and Michael fassbender absolutely steal the show and you grow quite attached to the captain of the ship as well. It is quite a gory film whenever it needs to be and there are certainly moments where you go very tense because you don't know what's going to happen but there is no overall sense of direction and the movie does not bother to explain itself to the viewers. It's visually impressive and at times it's moody and remembers what "Alien" was but quite often it is gratuitously violent and it feels like the plot of 3 movies mixed into one and not very smoothly I might add.

@monkeyballs3: nope, i watched prometheus yesterday because in France, belgium and Switzerland it's already out. Don't believe me? check the release dates. It starts with an alien creature ingesting some fluid and breaking apart and it ends with big blockbuster explosions. That is not to say i didn't enjoy the first 2/3rds of the film but it reaches a point where it feels like it can get away with showing stuff and never explaining any of it, so it deliberately sets itself up for a sequel and I hate that. The film should be able to stand on its own. Some of the characters (notably charlize Theron's character are left aside for a whole section of the film, only to come back at the end). there is one moment that involves alien acid that made no sense, nor does anyone talk about it afterwards. And the creature fight at the end is just...meh. there is however an abortion scene in the film that is quite gory and shocking and actually more drawn-out than it needs to be. it's like Scott forgot the philosophical quest at the beginning of the film so he could turn the film into a visual extravaganza at the end and that disappointed me sorely and I was not the only one. The Guardian gave it 3/5 so i can't be the only one to think it's not a perfect film. also, the soundtrack was sometimes annoying because I remembered the long and silent scenes from Alien in which the silence was so integral to building up the tension. I can only speak for myself but i'll give the film between 6.5/10 and 7/10 at best. maybe I'm in the minority on this one but i was disappointed that by the end it was really just a CGI feast.
