THE BOURNE LEGACY Release Date Pushed Back Because Of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Universal has announced that they're pushing back The Bourne Legacy in order to get out of the way of both The Dark Knight Rises and Total Recall. When will you now be able to see it? Find out here.

According to Deadline, Universal has announced plans to delay the release of The Bourne Legacy by a week. It will now hit the big screen on August 10th, instead of August 3rd. This makes sense, especially as that release date would have pitted it directly against Sony Pictures' Total Recall remake. The studio are also taking into account the fact that The Dark Knight Rises will more than likely storm the box office as Marvel's The Avengers did earlier this year and hold the #1 spot for several weeks. Some last minute reshoots played no part in this decision according to the site, while the reaction to the fourth Bourne movie (although this one doesn't actually feature Matt Damon as the titular character) has apparently been a good one so far at test screenings.

The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: The Bourne Legacy. The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films. For The Bourne Legacy, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn reprise their roles.

STARRING:

Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross
Rachel Weisz as Stephanie Snyder
Edward Norton as Byer
Joan Allen as Pam Landy
David Strathairn as Noah Vosen
Albert Finney as Dr. Albert Hirsch
Scott Glenn as Ezra Kramer

RELEASE DATE: August 3rd 10th, 2012
