Is Work Finally Beginning On Marvel Studios' ANT-MAN?

Rumour has it that some sort of very early pre-production may have begun on Marvel Studios and Edgar Wright's Ant-Man as London comic book stores have been finding themselves bombarded with requests for classic issues. What are they looking for? Read on for details.

According to Bleeding Cool, there has recently been a lot of activity in some of London's comic book stores in regards to people hunting down old Ant-Man issues. 'So what?' you ask? Well, it just so happens that these particular stores (Forbidden Planet, Gosh and Orbital) are surrounded both by major movie studio offices and production companies who work on special effects. Judging from the excerpt below, it appears as if these guys are hunting down some research material.

Over the last three weeks, I hear that four separate people have been into Gosh Comics looking for Ant Man comics. Lots of Ant Man comics, in any condition.

Here’s the thing. No one asks for Ant Man comics. Not even, I’m told, when Marvel was still publishing Ant Man comics. Each time the individuals have been asked if it’s for the Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish film and they jump back, spooked, asking how they could possibly know...

Today, the fourth individual had a specific request, wanting reference for Ant Man‘s "echo time locator" from "the old series".

The past has shown that the site has a good relationship with stores such as these, so there's really no reason to doubt the authenticity of their claims. It could of course be a coincidence, but what with Edgar Wright being a British director and the fact that a big chunk of Captain America: The First Avenger being filmed in the UK, there's no reason to doubt that a great deal of Ant-Man's production could take place in the country as well. Oh, and does anyone have any idea what on Earth an, "echo time locator" is?!

Dammit, it better be. I'm like the worlds only Ant Man superfan BUT I'm damn proud. Ant Man is the shit and I've been anticipating this movie more than any other Marvel movie other than the Avengers. I can't wait.

I'm sure. Must be missing something but I couldn't care less about Ant-Man and I don't see how anyone can be excited for this when there are so many other great characters that need attention.

At this point, if they are still scouring comics for ideas for a movie, it's not a good sign about seeing that on the big screen anytime soon. This could be one of the most interesting movies Marvel can make, I hope this happens. But I thought they'd be beyond this point by now (if this news is in any way valid.)

This odd way to get information for an article is turned into irony because I just happen to be listening to the song "I Heard It Through the Grapevine". The song fits, the article, perfectly.

Is an Ant-Man movie really necessary? Sorry but not every comicbook superhero can be translated to the big screen and I put Ant-Man in that catagory...just my opinion.

If there's any legit connection, I was hoping that the comic influences were already covered in Wright and Cornish's 2nd completed draft. So If this really is legit, I hope it's for something else.

Would everyone want to see Ant-Man movie even if they weren't going to use Hank because from all the talking Wright has done he's basically said Hank wont be in it they would be using O'Grady or Lang????

Sounds interesting. Can be a badass "Honey I shrunk the Kids" lol. In all seriousness, I trust Marvel Studios so let them do their thing.

P.S. -I've never read an Ant-Man comic and want to know where I'd be able to start. And suggestions?

P.P.S.- Wouldn't Marvel supply THEIR OWN MOVIE STUDIO with digital copies of the comics they're making movies of instead of sending them on scavenger hunt for their research?

If MARVEL wants to keep things hush hush shouldnt they just secretly give these individuals their learning material instead of them themselves buying it. The only thing this proves is their commitment to the role. But apart from that this aint gonna make it secret.

Whether the movie is beginning production or not, prospective actors will still wanna approach the studios if they can try out for the role even if there is no official casting notices up yet.

@Beaner8127:
ANTMAN I (HENRY PYM)
old school antman, look for early Avengers volumes, he and Wasp were original members, usually involved in some shape or form.

ANTMAN II (SCOTT LANG)
Bendis' Alias series used Scott Lang as a bf of Jessica Jones, it's a MAX comic so theres a bit of raciness involved.

Geoff John's run on Avengers used Scott Lang's Antman a fairbit, he was killed in Avengers Disassembled, and resurrected in Avengers:Childrens Crusade.

Soon he'll be in Matt Fraction's Defenders, I have a feeling its the Scott Lang version that the movie will focus on.

ANTMAN III (ERIC O GRADY)
Robert Kirkman's Irredeemable Antman volume was really great, he created the jerk Eric O'Grady version, he's a SHIELD agent who steals Henry Pym's suit and ends up on the run.

There's a recent Antman & Wasp mini pairing O'Grady and Henry Pym, a total odd couple cus they hate each other.

O'Grady later ended up in Avengers:The Initiative, then to Thunderbolts, and nowadays he's in Secret Avengers.

@blvdnoise

You forgot Thor 2.

Also @BackwardGalaxy Antman is only 1 of the 50 names Pym used in the comics and its not the first. They could call the film a bunch of things. He was Giantman 1st, then Antman, at some point Golith, and at another time Yellow Jacket.
There have also been a couple of Antmans.
So I think we either get a Pym using like goofing around about what name to use in the film or multiple Antmen(Pym in the begining and another needing to don the suit to save him later on).

I do not truly see an ant man movie working. If they made a period piece Captain America movie work, then Black Panther could work. Unfortunately I do not see the general public really getting into an Ant Man movie. Maybe they should make Pym a scientific liaison for SHIELD and bring him into Captain America 2 for a cameo and Thor 2 for a cameo working with Jane Foster and do a Marvel short, with him working on Pym particles.
