These life-sized Trolls are on display at WETA's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey display at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. It's likely that these were used as reference for the animators at the digital effects house during production of the Peter Jackson helmed The Lord of the Rings prequel(s). Many thanks to Bleeding Cool for the following image, and be sure to stay tuned to CBM for more from the event over the next few days.

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

This is going to be fantastic. Anyone familiar with the Hobbit book knows that the story is not as childish or immature as some would imply. In fact, to me, it is every bit as significant as LOTR and surpasses that story in some respects. I cannot wait.

Movie of the year, I call it already.

Been waiting for almost 10 years now.

And Grif is no troll. He's a character, part of CBM's soul.

Also, I miss that old [frick] Gusto and Tea's boob pics.

Whatever happened to this site? [frick]ing PC assholes?

Love it! Tom, Bert, and Bill baby!! Though spoiler alert, I think PJ has them being turned to stone by Gandalf rather than the sun based off what you see in the trailers. If so, that's gonna clash with one of Bilbo's lines in Fellowship. Guess we'll see! I really don't care either way, this is gonna be epic!

the trolls are huge too! a friend of mine is there and he posed for a pic standing under the middle troll's raised foot.

so glad they dont look like the trolls from LOTR. especially since these trolls will be talking, unlike the cave trolls.
