COMICS: Marvel Cancels October's THANOS: SON OF TITAN #1

Newsarama reports that retailers were sent the following email today confirming the cancellation of Thanos: Son of Titan #1 (originally revealed earlier this month via USA Today). This seems like a strange decision, especially as the publisher have put the villain back in the spotlight with appearances in the new Avengers Assemble series after he made his big screen debut in the mid-credits sequence of Marvel's The Avengers back in May. It was originally set to be released this October, from writer Joe Keatinge and artist Richard Elson.

"*THANOS SON OF TITAN #1 (OF 5) & VAR (AUG120580-1, $2.99, FOC 09/24/12) has been cancelled."

The title was described at the time by writer Joe Keatinge as being, "about how Thanos came to be. I don't go Forrest Gump on it, but aspects of the Marvel Universe have been born that directly turn Thanos into who he is." As the Thanos: Son of Titan was just few months away from being published, it's safe to assume that it is already near-completion, although the future of the series remains unclear as Marvel have declined to comment. Perhaps they'll save it for nearer the release of Guardians of the Galaxy?! (rumoured to feature his return)
