Kevin Feige Talks PLANET HULK; No Plans For A Hulk Movie Until After THE AVENGERS 2

Reiterating that there are currently no plans to slip in a solo Hulk movie before the release of Joss Whedon's sequel to Marvel's The Avengers, Kevin Feige also weighs in on the possibility of someday adapting "Planet Hulk" and "World War Hulk".

"I don't think there's a lot that we couldn't do someday, as the cinematic universe continues to grow and expand and get as big as the comic book universe," teased Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige in a recent interview with MTV News when asked about whether the next solo outing for the Green Goliath might see him stranded in outer space. "'Planet Hulk' is a cool story. 'World War Hulk' is a cool story. I think there's pitfalls of continuity-overload, and mythology getting so dense that it almost collapses in on itself," he added. "It happens every few decades or so in the comics. Apart from that, I'd say everything is on the table."

However, regardless of whether or not we'll one day see a big screen adaptation of the two epic Greg Pak penned stories, it definitely won't be happening as a part of Marvel's "Phase Two" plans. "Do I think Hulk can carry a movie and be as entertaining as he was in 'Avengers'? I do believe that. I do believe he absolutely could. We certainly are not even going to attempt that until 'Avengers 2. So there's a lot of time to think about it." To read more of his comments on Mark Ruffalo's take on the Hulk and why he thinks the character worke so well in Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble, be sure to click on the link below to read the interview with Feige in full.

Wish they'd get off their asses and start making dtv features again. They've already doen planet hulk and now that their contract with lionsgate has run out i'd have expected to see disney step in and adapt some stories. Anyway yeah i'd like another solo hulk film. Hpe theres hints to his whereabouts in phase 2.

Im mad that we'll have to wait so long for a another Hulk movie...but the fact that they dont want to rush it makes me feel confident itll be spectacular!

Why wait? Marvel should get another Hulk film out right away, don't rush it of course but it would be a great opportunity but instead they wanna be lame and not do it until after an Avengers sequel.

its the right time to do another hulk movie, after the huge success of the avengers its perfect timing for the hulk sequel.

the incredible hulk with norton made a profit but it made the least amount of money out of the phase 1 movies.

i would love if Thor 2 opened up with all of the asgardians in a great dining hall all sitting around a huge table with the guests of honor being Thor's Avenger pals. having a true victory meal after the chitauri invasion. Stark and Banner have used the cosmic cube to repair the bifrost and all the avengers go back their separate ways. problem is IM3 comes out first so THOR 2, if Stark were to make a cameo, would most likely take place after that so my idea really wouldn't make sense.

So many of you think making a movie is like snapping your fingers. Marvel Studios had been planning aspects of its Phase 2 continuity like Ant Man for years even before the Avengers came out. Throwing Hulk into that mix when there was already and idea of how to place these different movies together is just reckless.

Look, I'm ready for The Avengers sequel and see where they're going to take this one but I wouldn't mind if there were a couple more solo movies either. Heck the co-president said at this point, they're not sure if Ant-Man is going to be part of Phase 2!

I always thought with Banner and Stark leaving together at the end of Avengers that we'd see some Hulk in Iron Man 3

There is no need for a solo Hulk movie yet, but so is the question should they go for a reboot or continue where Edward Norton left? Cause i would love to see Ruffalo's Hulk kick the leader's ass.

Erm, he does realize they already did an animated Planet Hulk? It wasn't great cause they cut out the best stuff, but I would be happy with a WORTHY animated. Would be hard to tie these stories into the greater universe they are doing.

LFANCH - 9/21/2012, 12:33 PM
@ImmortalVigilante Why would they go for a reboot? They put all this effort into setting up a continuity which already includes the norton/ruffalo hulk.

I say The Leader and Red Hulk for a TIH sequel and keep all the same actors (aside from Norton of course)
Gigacrusher45
Gigacrusher45 - 9/21/2012, 12:39 PM
I actually do not agree on turning Planet Hulk and World War Hulk into movies that are part of the Avengers franchise because between the Incredible Hulk and The Avengers Bruce Banner has gained more control over the Hulk and has become a team player, therefore less of a danger to everyone.

And considering we won't see him again till Avengers 2 he will still act as part of the team. For everyone to randomly change there minds and see the Hulk as a threat again doesn't make sense unless someone outside of Shield and The Avengers did it to him.
PeterDarker121
PeterDarker121 - 9/21/2012, 12:45 PM
I have to say I COMPLETELY AGREE with Feige's comments. You have to realize that although TIH is part of Phase One, he's the only major Marvel character who was essentially 're-booted' within that time frame.

With all due respect to Letterier and Norton's interpretation, I find that (and Iron Man 2) to be the LEAST important entries thus far. IMO, while The Avengers was technically the "END" of Phase One, I feel Whedon's 'Hulk' was the TRUE cinematic "BEGINNING" to Banner's character for the upcoming phases.

To @NAILBITER, I don't want ANY Marvel project to be rushed because "the iron is hot" or because of popular demand. I want them to take as much time as they need to get it right and make the best, most timeless movies possible. We waited 41 years for the first Hulk film, 5 for the next and got the HOLY GRAIL 4 years later. I can wait 4 more for an even better SOLO film with Banner and/or the Hulk making cameos in other projects in-between...

Well, I'd really love a Hulk film but as long as they get Ant-man in I'm not going to complain. Black Panther would be a nice addition too. That said, I really wish they were doing another Hulk film before Avengers 2, because that way Leader could be in Avengers as part of the Masters of Evil. He still might have some type of role in Avengers 2 though.

I loved TIH. It's top three on my phase 1 list. I loved Ruffalo's hulk as well. It will be interesting to see how they progress with this.

Will definitely be worth the wait. Ever since I picked up Planet Hulk and World War Hulk I have prayed for movies of that storyline. Hopefully they go through with it and don't pussy out..

Awesome....called it (at least the possibility) months ago.

I think a great way to set it up in the MCU where Hulk/Banner isn't exiled is have Hulk try the Loki-Smash on Thanos when they first meeting...then Thanos punches him and grabs his throat and uses the Purple Space Gem to send him to Sakkar.

A page to Screen adaptation won't happen for Planet Hulk, but a story that takes inspiration from it could be a great great film. And finally give us something other than another Hulk gets mad- government goes after him - hulk destroys part of a city film.

Real good, Marvel. "Hey, who was the most popular character in Avengers?" "Hulk." "Okay, let's make a solo movie about everybody EXCEPT him." Did people not like the Incredible Hulk? I though that movie was as good as the rest of the Marvel movies, and better than Iron Man 2 by a mile.

RaMan

Ruffalo will be 46 after the Avengers 2 sequel. That is still within the age limit so he will be active as Banner/ Hulk.

Look at Bill Bixby. He was 43 when casted as Banner and after the final episode of the Hulk tv show he was 48 yrs old.

When Bixby came back years later to reprise his role as Banner on the made for tv movie Hulk he was 54.
