Ben Affleck Talks JUSTICE LEAGUE, DAREDEVIL And His Interest In Helming A Superhero Movie

Ben Affleck talks more about being linked to Warner Bros.' planned Justice League movie, looks back on playing the "Man Without Fear" in 2003's Daredevil, and confirms that he would be interested in helming a comic book movie if the right one was offered.

Talking to MTV News, Argo director Ben Affleck was once again asked about the recent rumours that he had been approached by Warner Bros. to helm Justice League; the big screen superhero ensemble which will unite such iconic DC heroes as Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman all in one film. He has repeatedly denied having any sort of involvement with the project, but still shared his thoughts on its potential and why he believes he was linked to the adaptation and why the studio are hoping to bring the team to life on the big screen.

"What happens is that there's a lot of bloggers and Internet interest around superhero movies, so there's regularly a rumor that comes up. Obviously [with regard to] 'Justice League,' once 'Avengers' happened, they think, 'Well, it would be crazy not to make "Justice League and I'm sure they will. I guess I should be flattered, and I'm sure it will be cool. I've seen some of the stuff from the new 'Superman' movie, and that stuff is awesome. I think they took a really cool, real approach to Superman, which no one has done before, so if that trend continues, I'm sure 'Justice League' will be great."

Affleck has made no secret of the fact that he didn't enjoy working on 2003's Daredevil, but when talk turned to Mark Steven Johnson's take on the iconic Marvel character, the actor actually revealed that he has at one point been approached about the planned reboot (which is obviously no longer moving ahead now that the rights are reverting from Fox to Marvel Studios), although he doesn't actually say what exactly they contacted him about!

"I would if there was one I liked. I had a negative experience with the one comic book I liked, it was just a movie that didn't work. It's such a shame, because, first of all, 'Daredevil' [is] a great book, great idea, and then right after that, they figured out that it was better to make the movies good, and then they started making them cool and investing in them. I felt like I was in the 1930s with that outfit, the trousers: 'Hey, chum, hold up there! This fella's trying to rob a bank!' It was a drag, but I did love it as a kid, and they're rebooting it. I got contacted about it, and I was like, 'That wouldn't be a reboot [if I was involved],' but I really hope they do a good job, because that's a great property and deserves something really, really good."

Finally, talk turned to whether or not Affleck would be interested in EVER helming a comic book movie. After all, he reportedly turned down Man of Steel, has nothing to do with Justice League and had a terrible experience with Daredevil, so it wouldn't be TOO surprising to hear him say that the genre is one he simply doesn't want to revisit. Well, not so. You see, it turns out that he's just waiting for the right offer and the right comic book...

"I would love to do [a comic book movie] if it was the right one, if I thought I could do it well. I think you have to, with any movie, have an idea for it that's original and unique and committed to it, and that's a hard thing to find."

Daredevil was a GOOD MOVIE, ...not Star Wars great, but entertaining and worth watching. It didn't irritate me with bad story or dialogues (Catwoman, Steel) and wasn't silly or over-the-top scenes and performances(Batman and Robin).

I just feel Daredevil universe is not 'Blockbuster' material, but serves more like personal human drama and conflict, liken to cop movies.

He should direct the next Batman movie. He would also do well with directing Daredevil. Kinda wish he was doing Justice League though.

Excellent director. "Gone Baby Gone" and "The Town" are terrific films, and "Fargo" looks pretty darn great.

It would interesting to see him direct Daredevil, because I think the tone of his films would work well with Daredevil, and then he could make "the right" Daredevil film. I highly doubt he'll ever want to be attached to that again though.

I think one of the reasons people didn't like the Daredevil movie is because they tried to make him into a superhero and he's more of a crime fighter. You don't see Thor chomping down on Vicodin and Percocet.

Ben Affleck is a good director. I wouldn't mind if he directed a future comic book movie.

I want the DC movies to be masterpieces, I don't want them to be like Thor or Cap which were okay at best. But prob not going to happen

He may have been miscast in the role, but I don't think he did a bad job in Daredevil. He gave a decent performance, and the movies not as bad as it's made out to be. Yeah it has a few dumb scenes like the park fight, and sure some the CG's bad, but looking back now so is the CG in Blade, X-MEN and Spider-Man too. The Spider-Man movies also have their share of eye rolling scenes as well, and Spider-Man 3 was a non stop series of them.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 wth BB and TDK i would agree the bar was set hig but after TDKR it lowered the bar. Considering somehow they missed the giant plothole of Fox being able to flood th chamber and prevent the entire evil scheme and random editing mistakes like switching to cat woman for 5 minutes before switching back to the last line of another coversation and Batman brooding on the bridge in the suit for no reason on his way to see Selina...

Green Lantern, Wolverine, FF4, Jonah Hex, Catwoman, Elektra, Spider-Man 3, G.I. JOE, Resident Evil 1-20, The Spirit, Spawn. Just sayin', you can do a lot worse than Daredevil.

@Ha1frican

Bane was threatening a board member. Him, Tate, and the board member were all down there. Flooding it would do nothing but delay Banes plans. Talia said it best "...but that would only delay their plans". Also it was a moment of crisis. Fox didn't even like Batman spying on people, what makes you think he'd be down with possibly drowning innocent lives and being responsible for further danger when Bane gets out.

I want to know why in the Avengers, everyone NEEDS a reason to defend the earth. Like without Coulsons death, they would've let the world die apparently. Guess Stark forgot about Yinsin.

I WILL ADMIT there are some fast cuts in TDKR, but how this justifies "disappointing" is laughable to me

Why would Lucius risk killing the board members who have families and himself to stop Bane? It isn't his place to make the decision for the lives of the innocent.

To be honest I didn't notice any editing mistakes. Once I examine it on blu ray, maybe I will.

I could actually make an argument for him directing Dr. Strange. Strange is a very difficult and multi-layered character; aloof, slightly arrogant but still very altruistic. I think Affleck could bring a very gritty and organic feel to the film if it gets green lit.

And the thing is, I love how Marvel develops each movie to be intertwined into the greater Marvel Universe, but not everything has to go into an Avengers movie. I think Affleck could bring Strange into the cinematic Marvel Universe without it having to be part of the Avengers.

Of all the potential movies that could be made, I am hoping for a Dr. Strange film the most.

But seriously, I loved Gone Baby Gone and I really wanna see him do a CBM, something gritty. In fact, Affleck for BATMAN, with Kev Smith as producer.

Yeah, he wouldn't be the right fit for a major COMIC BOOK CHARACTER, but although, I wouldn't mind seeing him direct a CB film, he's proven to be a pretty dencent director.
