Production Set To Begin On ASSASSIN'S CREED Within The Next Year?

It sounds as if we should expect to see Assassin's Creed on the big screen even sooner than originally thought! Ubisoft's chief sales and marketing officer has seemingly let slip when exactly we should expect to see the film (starring Michael Fassbender) begin production.

In a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz (via IGN Movies), Ubisoft's chief sales and marketing officer Geoffroy Sardin may have let slip some potentially very interesting details about the current status of the highly anticipated big screen adaptation of the Assassin's Creed franchise.

"Another thing that is very important for the lifecycle is the transmedia offer. All the figurines, the books, the publishing, and we have a movie in the next coming year. So it's not only about games, we are talking about a global brand, and this is the life cycle management we want to set up now."

While it almost sounds as if the film will be released within the next year, it's far more likely that Sardin is referring to the start of production. With X-Men: Days of Future Past set to begin filming in April (keeping Michael Fassbender busy for at least a few months), it's logical to come to the conclusion that work will begin on Assassin's Creed either late Summer or early Fall for a possible 2014 release. What do guys think? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.

Nice. Huge fan of the games. Actually have a replica of Connor's tomahawk from the third one.

Not dissing this in any way... I really think this is going to be awesome. But HOW IN THE HELL is this getting made before the 1 game that in my opinion deserves a movie more than any other game??

I just read something that put the release in 2013. I just hope they take their time and make it as good as possible. It should be something the fans of the game will love.

i hope this movie works out and doesn't suck. Fassbender is a great actor so there's some hope that this will be a really good video game based movie.

Cool! Michael Fassbender will probably have to start filming in the Fall 2013 & release it in 2014.

This movie could be great but assassins creed like most video games nowadays is like a playable movie, so this feels a little bit pointless.

wouldn't surprise me though if they just eliminated the Desmond story entirely and just went with an Ezio trilogy.

Video Games that need to be made into Movies:

1) Halo
2) Assassins Creed
3) nothing else

M3T4LL0, because this kind of ties into the "ancient alien" and or Mayan 2012 theories which are quite the popular topics right now.

Yeah I don't think MF should be Connor or Ezio, leaving Desmond/Altair as the only option. He'll be great, but I always was hoping for an unknown up and comer who was preferably Middle Eastern looking or at least Mediteranean, not straight from London. Oh well

I hope its Altair but it will probably be Ezio.
AC1
AC1 - 11/12/2012, 10:31 AM
Loved the games, hope the movies are good, and I hope they adapt all the assassins not just Ezio. IMO Fass should just play Desmond, and the ancestor assassins be played by actors of a similar caliber of those ethnicities (or close ethnicities at least).

Ending of Assassin's Creed 3 was incredibly disappointing though.

Of course these films must change the plot slightly, since they can't tie in to the 2012 'end of the world' theory. It'll have to just be a standard 'end of the world' film, minus the 2012 setting.

A metal gear movie would have to be 3 movies alone, all 3 hours long lol

I hope they start a franchise with different characters in each movie, like the AC1, 2 and 3 games. With Desmond being the glue.

Well, basically I want it to be faithful :P

@ACira - Fassbender must be every assassin. They use the same model for both Desmond and his ancestors.

I was gonna mention that, Fassbenders German and French accents were PERFECT in Xmen, so I bet he could handle most accents needed for the role

MisterNiceGuy - 11/12/2012, 12:51 PM
They can NOT have Fassbender play all of the assassins. That would be so [frick]in awkward and ruin the movies. They are Centuries apart and made up of different ethnicities. They do no have to look similar. The only reason the game did it was because it was a fcuking video game. Its easier for them to use the same platform then to come up with a new look for each game.

Oh God, I just recently finished the AC 3 (and I´m sobbing after seeing the sad ending, I´m so sorry for spoilers but I loved it sooo f@cking much)

and I really hope that this upcoming movie will satisfy me just like the fantastic video games!!

Fassbender as my darlings Altair or Desmond = mmm...that´s hot!

But if I could choose, I would rather see the original Desmond in a live action adaption - Francisco Randaz :D

I suspect they will have MF play all protagonist, and the explanation will be that the animus projects his image on them. Similar to the movie source code; the main character could only see the actual person he was living through in the mirror.

If they do use Fassbender as all of the assassins i guess it would be pretty cool if they did something similar to cloud atlas and use that movie magic to turn Fassbender into different races

The fact that Ubisoft is working so closely with adapting the movie gives me high hopes for this.

@SuspenseSmith I agree, Michael Fassbender being in the lead role is another great thing. I have a good feeling this will be an above average video game movie adaption.
Fogs
Fogs - 11/13/2012, 4:36 AM
@Sanderman - That was what I was going to say. THey can change his features so he can look slightly different in each timeline. This is 2012, folks can do these things.

AND I believe it's important for him to be in each role because of the theory I have about AC - if it's true, of course.
MisterNiceGuy
MisterNiceGuy - 11/13/2012, 6:33 AM
@Fogs, what is your theory, im curious if it is anything like mine.
AC1
AC1 - 11/13/2012, 6:37 AM
@Fogs they rectified it in Revelations; Altair and Desmond were redesigned to look slightly different, while Ezio looked the same. Desmond was only tweaked enough to look different, but Altair was completely redesigned to actually look Middle-Eastern. I think it was explained away as the old Animus making the ancestors look like the present day Animus user, while the newer Animus showed them how they'd actually look. It was pretty much the animators not thinking ahead when they made the first game. When the movie is made they should start with the Animus working properly and making them look individual, otherwise it gets confusing and looks silly to the rest of the audience.

Plus, there's no way Fassbender looks Arabic, Italian, or Native-American. He can only really play Desmond.

What's your theory anyway? Don't want to sound rude but it'll probably be wrong if it's along the lines that the assassins are reincarnated versions of each other. It's fairly well established in the series that Altair, Ezio, and Connor are ancestors of Desmond, and that the Animus simply allows Desmond to relive their memories by tracing his ancestry through his DNA. Plus Desmond's story ends in ACIII, meaning they wouldn't explain any of that in a future game.
Plus, Subject 16 was made to relive Ezio's memories in Abstergo before they captured Desmond (it's how they learned of Altair), proving that any descendants of a person can relive the memories using an Animus, so they can't all be reincarnated versions of them.
AC1
AC1 - 11/13/2012, 6:39 AM
@SuspenseSmith Fassbender is half German and speaks the language though, doesn't mean he can suddenly play any ethnicity or race.
