Brett Ratner's HERCULES Gets A Release Date

Last November, it was confirmed that Hercules was moving ahead with Brett Ratner at the helm and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson attached to star. Filming is expected to begin within the next few months, so it should come as no surprise to learn that Paramount has finally given the movie a release date. It will hit the big screen on August 8th, 2014, just ONE WEEK after Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. The screenplay was adapted by relative newcomer Ryan Condal from Radical Studio's graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars. Below is a description of that story.

Fourteen hundred years ago, a tormented soul walked the earth that was neither man nor god. Hercules was the powerful son of the god king Zeus, for this he received nothing but suffering his entire life. After twelve arduous labors and the loss of his family, this dark, world-weary soul turned his back on the gods finding his only solace in bloody battle. Over the years he warmed to the company of six similar souls, their only bond being their love of fighting and presence of death. These men and woman never question where they go to fight or why or whom, just how much they will be paid. Now the King of Thrace has hired these mercenaries to train his men to become the greatest army of all time. It is time for this bunch of lost souls to finally have their eyes opened to how far they have fallen when they must train an army to become as ruthless and blood thirsty as their reputation has become.

I hope Brett Ratner does not murder another film like he did X-Men 3.

The story sounds ok and the Rock is beefing up something nasty for this. But Ratass and going up against GOTG, I dunno....

Brent Ratner Movie WWE actor. Hmm. PFFFF O. K.
ha for all we know this movie could be good, but will probably to busy watching guardians of the galaxy and practicing making babies and doing drugs, to go see this al though I must admit, the premise for the film is not what i expected and seems kind of neat, but than again I thought the Conan movie looked awesome, and yeah i never seen it but to lazy to view it. besides it so much better to let others think for you . .

I would love to see a really faithful, badass, big-budget Hercules movie someday. Pretty sure this will not be it. Oh well. There's always Steve Reeves:

It frustrates me so much when shitty directors like Ratner get great projects like these. Even I could make a better movie than him.

I kinda want Marvel to pursue Hercules once their Thor trilogy runs its course. Thor and Hercules were buds. I'd love to see him in an Avengers movie and I'd love a classic scene of Herc and Thor in a drinking contest.

Wait a minute! Brett Ratner was at, one time, going to direct God of War the movie. This is going to be exactly what he was going to do with Kratos, but he replaced the character with Hercules.

Some moron trusted Ratturd with making a movie about a Greek mythical hero and he cast The Rock?!? I'm going to stamp a FAIL on this since it is a bad director and Dwayne is miscast in this.

I've seen a lot of hate for Bret Ratner cause of XMen III and I admit it was the weakest of all the Xmen movies and I didn't care for it myself. But being a writer and screenplay writer myself, you can't necessarily blame the director for directing a bad screenplay. They have to make and film what's on the page...like Schumacher with his Batman movies...bad stories and screenplays, bad movies. Ratner has made some good movies...Red Dragon being one of them. I read the book and it was very faithful to the book. And the first Rush Hour movie wasn't that bad. So if he gets a good script, he'll make a good movie. A director's vision is half in his mind, half what's on the page of the screenplay. So if the scene sucks on page then it's going to suck on film, no matter if you're Speilberg or Cameron. Never seen a director get so bashed on here more then Ratner for Xmen III. Just like Bryan Singer with Superman Returns...shitty story and screenplay, terrible movie...and we all praised his first two Xmen movies didn't we? Xmen II (in my opinion) was one of the best CBM movies made to date.

I don't have high hopes for this.

I mean, Brett Ratner? And The Rock is awesome, but I don't think he's the right choice for Hercules.

@Gambit The movie is based on a graphic novel apparently. I haven't heard of this mythology of Hercules before. I think it was just made up for the graphic novel... I could be wrong though.

Idea: Good
Director: Fail

Nothing against Rock but i think Joe Manganiello would have been cooler Hercules. Or maybe Daniel Cudmore.

I am a huge fan of The Rock (sorry Dwayne, but THAT'S your real name lol), and I honestly would've liked to see him bald and green as Drax.

Now he gets to show whatever knucklehead they DO cast as Drax just how badass is supposed to be done on screen. IMO The Rock is the ONLY true "successor" to the Schwarzenegger throne.

Oh, and NerdAlert, you are absolutely right concerning the Heracles/Hercules perversion...

I don't know if this is based on a graphic novel but it is certainly not based on greek mythology and it's weird that they don't use the mythology which could be quite a treat with todays technology.Let's hope it's more a "300" and less "clash of the titans"

and personally as a greek I would rather see an original story with a legendary hero than an adaptation (brutal rape) of the mythology like Troy

Eh the comics are pretty good. Hercules has a cannibal berserker buddy who's a riot.

Well, there goes hope of an 2nd Week #1 for GOTG.

Not liking the premise they're adapting, doesn't sound like a Hercules I want to see.
