X-MEN Producer Hutch Parker Reveals New Story Details About THE WOLVERINE

Were you wondering how and why Logan (Hugh Jackman) ends up in Japan after the events of X-Men: The Last Stand? How about the reason behind those scenes we saw being filmed in a WWII Nagasaki camp? Well, The Wolverine producer Hutch Parker reveals all!

Despite the fact that James Mangold's The Wolverine is based on Chris Claremont and Frank Miller's beloved Japan-set arc, little else is known about the plot of the movie. Until now that is. Talking in the latest issue of Empire Magazine, X-Men producer Hutch Parker had this to say about why and how Hugh Jackman's Logan finds himself in Japan. You'll also notice that he offers up an explanation as to why we saw scenes set in a World War II concentration camp being shot (something which initially led to many fans assuming that it would be yet another prequel).

"We pick up Logan in a very isolated state, full of self-loathing. He is sought out by a young Asian woman for reasons he doesn't fully understand, who is asking him to follow her to Japan where he is meant to reconnect with someone he spent prison-time with in Nagasaki. And the legacy of that experience - effectively Logan saved him - is that this man is on his deathbed, and is looking to give him a gift, to thank him for the life he's had. But this gift draws Logan into a very complex and very unexpected world within both contemporary Japan, and to some degree the feudal history of Japan. The quality of this story is that it takes Logan on such a challenging personal journey. He's so in isolation, so out of his element. It's a much more powerful distillation of his character than you've seen before. It's why people have always love this particular story."

Pretty interesting stuff here, eh? Make sure you pick up the latest issue of Empire Magazine for more details on The Wolverine and don't forget to sound off with your thoughts on this in the usual place!

@KamenRiderJ22: I don't think the two are connected: He's a loner who is in a position where he's out of his depth. He's not out his element because he's a loner.

Well, they've already said this flim takes place after X3 so I think the "isolation" is Logan feeling fricked up over the fact he had to kill the woman he loved(Jean). Logan has had the company of his fellow X-Men and now he's dealing with the fact that Jean, Scott and Xavier are dead, Rouge doesn't want to be a mutant anymore and the family he's come to know has disappeared. He's gonna go deal with things in Japan and start things over. Of course, you know things in this flim will lead to DOFP. They say standalone but its all connected.

ummmmm so will Logan be teaching kindergarten now?

'distillation' ....yes the japan arc saw a more distilled Logan, but that's because he was a crazy bloody hit-man type before. He was NEVER like this in the X movies. he was ALWAYS toned down. If he gets toned down anymore, he will be sucking his thumb.

i can see it now, Fox wll F- up this great story. Doesn't seem to be following the actual Frank Miller comic at all besides it taking place in Japan.

Problem is we won't know till its released whether the movie is good or not cause there has been a lot of movies that look amazing from trailers but turns out poopy. I really do hope it turns out amazing but I just doubt it, on top of that it is contending against other beast cbm's like man of steel-iron man 3- Thor..

i really like this story. wolverine sort of battles himself here as opposed to just slicing up the bad guy(although theres probably a lot of that). im just worried that all the simple minded "fans" arent going to like it because its different.

This movie will be terrific. No matter what. Jackman IS Wolverine. Period.

There's some VERY good reasons why he is the ONLY actor to portray the SAME character IN MULTIPLE movies without having to suffer a reboot, a replacement, or what have you...
