Hugh Jackman Promises The "Definitive" Take On Logan In THE WOLVERINE

Despite playing the character in the X-Men trilogy, his own solo spin-off and Matthew Vaughn's prequel, Hugh Jackman reveals that he believes The Wolverine to be his chance to deliver the "definitive" take on the Marvel character.

"I still don't think we've seen the definitive Wolverine," confessed Hugh Jackman in a recent interview with Empire Magazine. The actor has played the iconic Marvel character in FIVE films, and while his take on Logan is loved by fans and critics alike, he's determined that he and James Mangold will both finally deliver THE Wolverine this summer. "And the longer I play the character, the more the desire to get him right grows. The more I speak to fans and explore his world, the more it means to me. Look, there's no question that it's a great role." So, what's changed and why does the Australian actor feel like now is the time to give the fans the Wolverine they truly want? "I didn't fully understand that when I went in, you know? The pressure now is way more. I feel I understand why there's the passion. I understand the character and the legacy and I don't feel, up until this movie, that we've completely lived up to that. So that's what I intend to do." Just another reason to look forward to The Wolverine, eh? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts on Jackman's comments in the usual place!

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

I thought he nailed some aspects of it pretty good in X2. That was the only X-Film to date I felt "at times" really felt like an X-Men movie should. This is one of my favorite stories so like a slappy I'm optimistic they don't F it up.

I'm re-reading the Claremont/Miller book right now. God I hope this movie delivers. I was so excited about the last one. Me and my buddy left the theater with the hugest "wtf?" looks on our faces after that one. Please, Hugh, please don't dupe me again!

I like Hugh Jackman a lot and think he's sincere but man he always says the same stuff.....here, from a Ror article in 2009...

"Q: What was your motivation for returning to Wolverine for a fourth time?

A: I have to say of all the X-Men I’ve probably had as good or better run than most of them with my character. But I still felt that we never truly understood who this character was and we felt there was enough in the character and his history to make an entire film. "

Meh. I'll believe it when I see it. He echoed a similar sentiment about Origins, and look at what a fiasco that was. This is just your run-of-the-mill promotional pandering. Nothing new to see here.

I wish more actors were as passionate about playing these kinds of franchise characters as Jackman is for Wolverine. Even in shit like Origins he still brings his A game, and he wasn't what was wrong with that movie, everything else was. He's a great Wolverine, and I hope that "The Wolverine" is the movie he deserves it to be for being so committed to this role for the past decade.

People are judging this one off of Origins shittyness.

Did no one bother to check how HUGE the differences in the production team is?

Mangold as a fantastic director, 3:10 to Yuma being great. THE Christoper Mcquarrie writing with Aaronofskys approval. Based on the one of the best Wolverine graphic novels

I really like Hugh Jackman and he's consistently great as Logan, but he says something like this before every X-Men movie he's in is released. He said it about Origins. The Wolverine DOES look very good, but I'll still reserve my judgement until I watch the movie and see 'the definitive Wolverine movie' for myself.

Jackraow21
Jackraow21 - 1/29/2013, 11:28 AM
Yep, he says pretty much the same thing every time. Perhaps he's not capable of giving us the definitive take on Wolverine because he's too far from who the character is? No matter how hard he tries, Jackman can't be a 5-foot, 3-inch hairy, mean badass from hell. He's just too tall, too pretty and too nice.

AC1

Who gives a shit about his height?! You want hairy midgets, go watch Return of the Jedi! And I always preferred Logan in his civilian clothing anyway, never saw the point of him wearing a costume. Even as one of the X-Men, I'd rather just see him wear some tactical gear than that weird costume (works in the comics, cartoons and on Lego, can't see it working live-action though) - Logan never struck me as the type to wear such a flamboyant costume, he always seemed more practical. He's not a proper hero, and he's always at his best when he's barely an X-Man. He's part of the team because it suits him, he has a code of honour and does good deeds but is not truly heroic, it's always as either a favour to Prof X (one of the only people in the world who he respects, as well as Captain America and sometimes Nick Fury) or because they have a common goal. Nowadays in the comics he's been roped in to the team and has wrongly become the X-Men's poster boy, but Logan's a loner. He doesn't need that costume to be who he is. The clothes don't make the man.
AC1
AC1 - 1/29/2013, 11:38 AM
Nobody complained that Hawkeye wasn't wearing his purple costume from the comics in The Avengers movie - yet his costume, particularly the mask, is very similar to Wolverine's.

And before anyone argues with me that 'they went for Hawkeye's ultimate look' - In Ultimate Marvel, Wolverine doesn't wear a mask either, he's always either in his black uniform (like a sleeveless, less leather version of the movie costume), or in his civilian clothes. Works both ways.
