It was recently revealed that both Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen were in talks to join Aaron Johnson in Legendary Pictures' Godzilla remake. Well, talking at tonight's BAFTA awards, the young actress (who has received praise for roles in the likes of Liberal Arts and Martha Marcy May Marlene) confirmed that she will soon begin work on the Gareth Edwards helmed project. "I'm about to film Godzilla in the Spring so that's the next thing I'm working on!" When asked about making the transition from dramas to a big budget blockbuster, Olsen jokingly added: "Well, Godzilla is actually going to be a very heavy drama! It's definitely going to be a very different take on the past Godzilla's..." Godzilla is currently set for release on May 16th, 2014 in 3D.

@Jazza Watch Martha Marcy May Marlene and Liberal Arts. She has so much range and is a great actress. And isn't a trainwreck like her older sisters.

"a very heavy drama"? I thought Godzilla was supposed to be about a giant mosnter fighting other monsters and destroying Tokio... I know monsters are heavy and Tokio being destroyed is kinda sad, but I wouldn't call that a drama lol

The first Godzilla movie was really a political statement about the dangers of nuclear war, it wasn't until the later movies did he become a meaningless monster...So adding some darkness and political undertones would actually make it more like the original.

Yeah, heavy drama is EXACTLY what I look for in all my giant monster smashing big city to bits movies. #facepalm

No one really cares about "drama" in Godzilla...in general, that's what spoils it. Don't give me a fake-ass bitch news reporter or worm-boy ex-boyfriend dramas, again!

A different take is not always a bad thing. Take this for example

The first American Godzilla movie was a "different take". I'm not sure if I like what I'm hearing. I'm all for an awesome Godzilla movie, just not convinced Hollywood is capable of giving us just that.

Screw all the naysayers. While I'll accept the crap thrown at the first American attempt (which was really a remake of the monster movie that inspired Godzilla), this one hasn't even been made yet, and some of you morons have already passed judgement on it. What I've gleaned from all the info we've got so far is that we're going to get a potentially powerful film in line with the original, plus some monster battles to add a sugar coating. Y'all hear different take and freak out. What they mean when they say this is that it won't be like the Big Guy's campiest outings, but something more serious, again, like the original, which, although not my personal fave of the series, is by far the BEST of ALL the films. So, if you want camp, stick to what's come before, because it ain't going anywhere.

Oh, and Olsen's involvement (as well as Johnson's and Cranston's if true) gets a thumbs up from me ;)

"Heavy Drama"

Alas, poor Godzilla! We irradiated him well!

Drama is fine. Anything is an improvement over that craptacular, butt-puckering, mind-numbingly, slice of idiocy that was the last film. Matthew Broderick really screwed the pooch with that one. Of course, after years of screwing a horse, he probably couldn't tell the difference.
