Benedict Cumberbatch Confirms That SHERLOCK Will Return For A Fourth Season

Rejoice fellow Sherlock fans! According to Radio Times, Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock Holmes) has confirmed that he and co-star Martin Freeman (Dr. John Watson) will return as the iconic duo for a fourth season of the BBC series. "We've agreed to two more series but I could get into trouble for saying that," he told the site at the South Bank Show Awards earlier this afternoon. "All I know at the moment is I'm doing these three [episodes of the upcoming series] and another three." He apparently went on to add that he would like to continue playing the character beyond a fourth season, although with both him and Freeman now finding big screen success in blockbusters like The Hobbit and Star Trek Into Darkness, it all depends on their hectic schedules! Filming of season three begins next week in order for it to air (in the UK at least) this Fall.

Martin Freeman is just bloody brilliant, as is Cumberbatch.

Watson: It's not obvious to me.

Sherlock: Oh what it must feel like to live in your world....

Moriarty was a let down in season 2, but still a great series overall. Looking forward to more.

"I wish he'd just go ahead and confirm himself as Doctor Strange."

All due respect to Dr. Strange fans, but Cumberbatch as Strange is really the only thing I can think of that would get me excited about that movie. (I assume the trailer will pull me in like the THor one did, but still)...

So great to hear that. I was damn afraid he would bail due to his rising big screen success. That he is loyal to the show makes him even more likable. Great guy.

I love Sherlock, it's probably my favourite TV show. I have to say though, I'm a bit conflicted about a fourth series or more... on the one hand, I love the show and the idea of new episodes is really exciting. On the other hand, I don't want to see it stretched out to the point that it becomes boring, or even worse, ending abruptly with no true finale planned or created. I hope, if there is a fourth season, it's the last. Too many good shows are drawn out until they become old and boring. I'd rather see Sherlock go out with a bang than fade into obscurity.

Always leave the audience wanting more.

Favorite show hands down. I can not wait for the third series to start. When I heard the hint words 'Rat. Wedding. Bow.' my stomach sank thinking that the next series would be the last. Now probably a fourth and beyond?

Words can't describe how happy I am!

@ACira: There are dozens of Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. So as long as they keep the great writing I don't see why the show should seem stretched after 12 or 15 episodes (4 or 5 seasons). But I agree that when the series eventually comes to an end it should be with a bang and not just with some regular episode.

I Find his portrayal of Sherlock to be an obnoxious twat who magically pulls details out of his ass. I really can't stand this show simply because of him. Ugh.
