COMICS: DC Loses Another Writer; Josh Fialkov Leaves GREEN LANTERN CORPS And RED LANTERNS

Just hours after the news hit that "professional differences" had led to Andy Diggle to depart Action Comics, it has now been confirmed that Josh Fialkov will no longer be taking over Green Lantern Corps and Red Lanterns. Who replaces him? Read on for details!

In yet another shocking real-life twist, it has today been confirmed that writer Josh Fialkov and DC Comics have parted ways. Below is a statement from his blog, further elaborating on why he will no longer pen Green Lantern Corps and Red Lanterns after this June's creative team shake-up's. It has since been confirmed that Pinocchio Vampire Slayer will co-plot Green Lantern Corps with Robert Venditti (The Surrogates), while new Swamp Thing scribe Charles Soule will take over Red Lanterns.

Just a quick note to confirm what everyone knows, I am no longer the writer of GLC and Red Lanterns for DC Comics. There were editorial decisions about the direction of the book that conflicted with the story I was hired to tell, and I felt that it was better to let DC tell their story the way they want. I’m grateful for the opportunity and I’ll miss working with the entire Green Lantern team.

This was not an easy decision to make emotionally or financially, but, I’m sure it was the right decision for both me, and for the Green Lantern books. The outpouring of support, your kind words and well wishes means so much to me and my family. In the meantime, I’ll be writing ALPHA: BIG TIME and THE ULTIMATES over at Marvel, and THE DEVILLERS at Dynamite. I’ve got a couple more projects in the works, so stay tuned.

DC and there editorial mandates strike again. It seems that if your not a big name writer like Snyder, Morrison or johns your pretty much expendable. Marvel used to be this bad a few years (quesada forcing jms off spidey and Thor) and DC were much more relaxed and I was buying more of they're books. Now it's roles reversed.

I am calling it right now. DC is going to be reversing their reboot in the near-future, restoring most of the pre-Flashpoint continuity and cherrypicking what did work from New 52 into it.

...which hopefully means we finally get Wally West, Cassandra Cain, Donna Troy, Stephanie Brown, and Superman's marriage back.

If the EDITORIAL STAFF keeps this up, they'll lose more than gain as far as readers are concerned. I'm just saying if it gets any worst they should be Fired.

Ah, as much as a DC fan as I may be (solely for the fact that I love DC characters), DC sucks these days and they cant get their shit straight. This will only result in less sales which is good, because that is the only way someone will fire anyone in DC and maybe then we can get someone with a brain behind the editorial reins. Not holding my breath though.

I'm not surprised.

Agreed. The issue is that one of DC's biggest problems also sells lotsa books and makes DC lotsa $$$ just by putting his name on it (regardless of how much story he's actually written- Flash runs up a building for FIVE PAGES?? COME ON!), and no matter how contrived or ham-handed it is, most of his fan(boys)s will swear that it's the greatest thing since Moby Dick. Assuming they've heard of Moby Dick. Until the sales figures tell DC (and more importantly, WB) that people don't like having their intelligence insulted and won't buy lazy crap, excpect more of the same.

Sad to say, I can't really get into any of it, really. I followed Flash for a few issues, just to see how he was handled, the first few JL, a Batman here and there.

Silly or no, the whole tone of the new DCU just feels...icky to me. Not necessarily because of the reboot per se, but more where they've chosen to go with it...less heroic somehow. It's just not fun for me anymore.

But I still love the characters and I got a BIG library

Dude, Berganza had already signed off on Fialkov's story- he's the one who hired him. These things happen to DC writers all the time, and it's always the same guy. Who do you think has the most control over the story direction of GL? I'll give you a hint: It ain't DiDio, Lee, or Berganza

Ah DC Editorial. continuing their track record of solid, seamless and trouble free story telling through a fluid use of well deployed creative teams working hand in hand with their department.

It's like the good old days, only with more lines and seams and other unnecessarily busy costume bits (and the funny thing, that last bit wasn't entirely sarcasm).

Ding ding ding Hope420. I think it's Bob Harris. Remember how badly he screwed up Marvel. Seems like they give some of his marvel 90s peeps leeway but other talents are getting screwed. Remember this is the same guy that ran off Marvels best writer off it's biggest title, Chris Claremont. Then in turn ran off the Image guys. I guess I should be happy than Daniels got the Action comics writing gig and not Nocetti, Defalco, or Liefield. lobdell gets a pass from me because his Red Hood is a great read. As a whole, I really like the new 52....but it's got it's messes. And please no Waid. He is so hit and miss for me. If they feel the need to revive 90s writers, they should get Gerard Jones, Bill Loebs, or Roger Stern. Crap more that I think about it, they should bring Stern back on Action.

Comics are really jumping the shark with the editorial mandates at DC and Spiderman and Xmen wrecked at Marvel.

@johnny You forgot Keith Giffen. You sure it's Johns? Really believe its Harras. Look at how many titles Defalco and Noccetti have been given? If it was Johns they would rely more on Sterling Gates, Tomasi, and Robinson.
