BOX OFFICE: EVIL DEAD Set For $26M; G.I. JOE: RETALIATION Muscles Its Way To #2

There's been a few surprises at the North American box office this weekend, and while Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead has indeed taken the top spot with an impressive $26 million, G.I. Joe: Retaliation has decimated the 3D re-release of Jurassic Park by taking the #2 spot.

Fede Alvarez's remake of Evil Dead has continued to exceed expectations as it easily took the top spot in North America with an impressive three day total of $26 million. That's far beyond many initial estimates and a fantastic start for a movie which cost only $17 million to produce. It was thought that Jurassic Park 3D would take second place, but G.I. Joe: Retaliation has muscled its way into that position with an admirable $20.7 million. That takes the sequel's current domestic cume to over $86 million! The 3D re-release (which was overseen by Steven Spielberg himself) dropped to #4 and has taken a predicted total of $18.7 million. You can read my review of Evil Dead by clicking HERE and G.I. A lot of the critics on RT are dissing Evil Dead for not being as hilarious and fun as the original. These idiots have short memories, the original was not a funny flick, Evil Dead 2 was the one that spoofed the original and started the fun and hilarious vein that ran into the third movie. The original film was made on a minuscule budget but with serious intent.

This version is not for laughs, its for sheer horror. Critics once again showing how little they know about their chosen profession and how lazy they are in doing any level of research.

GI Joe 2 was pretty awful. Not as bad as TDKR or Webb's Spider-Man but pretty bad. The Bruce Willis bits are the best parts. The "I have high cholesterol" line and delivery was too good for that film.

Palicki is a dud. She's like Megan Fox just getting roles because of looks. And both have the depth of a cardboard cutout.
The movie was all Rock until Willis showed up late in the film. And the Rock can do the I'm a big bad ass bit and thats it. He has no style and none of his attempts at humor worked.

The movie is similar in feel to Van Damme's Street Fighter. Another bad movie but also not as bad as TDKR.

GI Joe wasn't bad at all, better than the first one. Love snake eyes, need more snake. Gotta go check out the Evil Dead remake. I remember seeing the original at the drivein (Miles Drivein) as a kid, scared the shit out of me.

in the after credits, it looked like Bruce Campbell saw the movie, stood up, and said "Groovy." because he approved of it. Haha

so a close pal of mine finally had us convinced to watched it. the film is ok had it's moment. glad Bruce Willis had a cameo if not this would have been just a generic action flick with The Rock headlining.

Evil Dead was good, I really liked it. But it wasn't scary AT ALL. Maybe I'm immune to American horror but idk. And some of the characters' actions were idiotic, other than that, it was a great flick.
