Amy Adams Talks More About Her Role As Lois Lane In Zack Snyder's MAN OF STEEL
Amy Adams discusses how her modern take on Lois Lane differs to past versions and teases the relationship between her character and Clark Kent. The actress also expresses her excitement about playing Lois after reading for the role for two other Superman movies!
In an interview with Empire Magazine, Amy Adams has gone into further detail about her role as Lois Lane in Man of Steel. The actress had been in talks to play the character in both McG's aborted Superman: Flyby and Bryan Singer's Superman Returns, so she was of course overjoyed to finally get the chance to bring her take on the iconic character to life on the big screen. "I have always identified with Lois. She is suited to my personality. When she came up for the third time, I was like, 'Okay, this is ridiculous. I have to play Lois'. I know other people have played the role, and others will play the role after me, but this was me putting my stamp on it."
As it turns out, that stamp will be very different to past versions; Man of Steel will instead feature a Lois Lane who is an, "independent, feisty woman, all of those things, but set in a more identifiable world." In other words, don't expect the same damsel in distress version that Margot Kidder played in Superman! "I loved that version, but we have moved on. She has become more a free ranging journalist, someone who likes to be hands on. The nature of the newspaper business has changed so much. There is so much more pressure." Finally, when asked about the relationship between her character and Henry Cavill's Clark Kent, she was careful not to give anything away, describing their dynamic only as, "a strong friendship".
In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.
