BigMikeReviews
BigMikeReviews - 6/13/2013, 10:55 AM
I'm not sure where they're pulling these quotes, the buzz has been modestly good at best for the most part, but no one is calling it a "masterpiece"

@BigMikeReviews Actually a few, well-known critics are. The negative reviews on RT are coming from places no one has ever heard of.

The positive and negative reviews are coming from well-known critics and others.

there are top critics that are giving it negative reviews too, not just unknown sites

MarkJulian@ Not sure where you are getting that from. There are a lot of Top Critics who have given it a rotten rating.

This one (not from a top critic) makes me sad...

"Superman is not Batman, he is not supposed to be dark, gritty, and joyless. Where is the hope?"
Reasonnnn
Reasonnnn - 6/13/2013, 11:00 AM
The negative reviews I'm reading is not about how it's NOT the Donner films, but on how weak the script is. Goyer has been known to be a hit-or-miss guy...

"Just like Star Trek, this is a film where a major character shows up and tells the major characters what to do and what choices to make at critical junctures. For all the talk of choice in the film, Superman really never has one. He, as Clark Kent, basically roams about until circumstances force his hand to where he has no real option except to well, ‘be Superman’." - Scott Mendelson

That being said, I have my midnight IMAX tickets for tonight. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT!

@BigMikeReviews - Like MarkJulian just said, most of those reviews are from unknown people and "indie" websites. All of the CBM sites are raving over it! Look harder my brother!

Ignore those that for some reason want to exude Hate! Let them waste their energy! Their precious little RT just jumped back up from 59% to 61%. The fans and Box Office will decide!

@DCMultiverse Known critics have given MOS bad reviews.

Any critic complaining about too much "action" in this movie needs to hand over their man card right now. Idiots!
TheManofTomorrow
TheManofTomorrow - 6/13/2013, 11:03 AM
It just blows my mind how the Avengers, though I love that movie, is considered superior to the Man of Steel. Of course, action scenes don't make a movie, but there is more action in MOS than Avengers, Iron Man, Thor, GL, and Batman put together.

I'm cool with that. Best CBM for me. Or maybe I'm just a fanboy.
DeltaActual
DeltaActual - 6/13/2013, 11:04 AM
@Hetzer 52%? 18 out of 28 Top critics does not equal 52%. Try again! LOL foolish children!

@TheWolverine08 Sure they did, but they were saying how they missed the Donner "feel" and the Lois Super relationship building! They are like the Nolanites, but are referred to as Donnerites. Silly I tell Ya! ;-)
TheWolverine08
TheWolverine08 - 6/13/2013, 11:07 AM
I wonder how this will compare to Avenger or TDK. I personally think it'll be on a Batman Begins level.

and nice username " hetzer (ger)= baiter (eng)" ! no wonder what you try to do then :D

I'm trying to figure out why a Superman movie can't be dark, and still be viewed as a Superman movie. The critics don't have the right mindset.

If an alien threatened to destroy earth, I don't think too many people would be smiling. I don't think the one guy who can stop them would be planning a picnic with Lois Lane either. I think it would be in bad taste to write a bunch of humor into a movie were the villain is killing people off by the thousands. You want The Donnor Superman movies, then you can go buy them from Best Buy. I want to see Superman overcome this darkness, because within that lies the Light.

ManofSteel23
ManofSteel23 - 6/13/2013, 11:08 AM
some critics mention reeve!! I mean wtf...welcome to the 21st century where superman is suppose to kick your face in instead of plonking you on the head and you collapse, I know I will be love this film because I am a big supes fan boy and I know it will blind me from anything that may be bad...but that aint a bad thing
REDSTORM
REDSTORM - 6/13/2013, 11:09 AM
I think the big issue about the movie is that it tries really hard to be just an origin for Superman. In Batman Begins, Bruce becomes the Batman we pretty much know already by the end of the film. This movie doesn't do that. Instead it just takes a few steps toward the Superman we know and love.
TayDee
TayDee - 6/13/2013, 11:09 AM
DCMultiverse - 10 out of those 28 critics didn't like it.

It's more like 36%
DeltaActual
DeltaActual - 6/13/2013, 11:09 AM
@TheWolverine08 - I TOTALLY agree with you and I believe it will be like Batman Begins. It is an origin story that sets the tone for that Universe! Good observation!

That spot may be a cash grab like any other Critics spot, but you have to see the movie for yourself.

Again, I saw it myself, judged it for myself, and yes, it is [frick]ing awe-inspiring.

It is BIG. Biggest action movie EVER. Not sure about epic masterpiece though.
Demonseed
Demonseed - 6/13/2013, 11:10 AM
I'm seeing it at midnight, and I have to say I'm disappointed to see such mixed reviews. My expectations are definitely lower now than before, but maybe that's a good thing. Anyways, I got in to the premier party and met Henry Cavill, he's a solid dude, hopefully this movie doesn't tank and we'll see a sequel. I'd definitely prefer to see a World's Finest before a JLA movie.

Just like Mark Julian said, RT ratings are coming unknowns to a few who said well Top Critics...at the moment Top Critics 18 Fresh and 10 Rotten. Funny thing 2 days ago a Top Critic, posted twice his negative same review twice under two different company names, punk move but the same did remove it.

@ Ranger14 - Because these critics are expecting Donner cute and lovable comic bookey version. When you see it you'll understand, imo it's the ending. But anyway. It's a great film.

Here's another critic who imo take the serious, realism type of tone and see it as dark. Top Critic from Seattle Times said it was "thoughtfully crafted and occasionally breathtaking; what it isn't, unfortunately, is much fun." She ranted how it was dark for her taste (exactly her taste).
LEVITIKUZ
LEVITIKUZ - 6/13/2013, 11:11 AM
UrbanTheEmcee

I agree with this guy.
TayDee
TayDee - 6/13/2013, 11:11 AM
REDSTORM - The main issue is lack of character development according to the critics. Some liked the action, others didn't. Most people hear will like all of the action, but more action takes away from character development, which was a problem according to them.
TayDee
TayDee - 6/13/2013, 11:13 AM
UrbanTheEmcee - The dark gritty stuff that's being depicted in this "Nolanverse" is taking it to another level. Almost depressing. Sure they don't have to have as much humor as Marvel films do, but a serious tone throughout the whole movie is boring.
BigMikeReviews
BigMikeReviews - 6/13/2013, 11:14 AM
From some of the reviews I've read, it seems to have similarities to Batman Begins in its plot structure, primarily in the way that the first half is effectively well told and executed origins story, and the second half catering to a more conventional summer film, once Batman downed the Cowl I felt the film dipped slightly downwards as I always found the path towards their alter ego more exciting than when they actually have to start acting like Batman or Superman. Don't get me wrong I think Begins amazing, and hopefully Man of Steel is on par with it! Anyway all this is speculation, come 10:00 PM tonight I'll be able to make my own judgment.
DeltaActual
DeltaActual - 6/13/2013, 11:16 AM
Of the 36% of those that I have read, their points were failed hopes of reliving 1978. I am amped for this like every CBM and I am happy I am able to experience these in my lifetime! Most of these critics had preconceived notions going in and it was evident!
ManofSteel23
ManofSteel23 - 6/13/2013, 11:16 AM
If you want character development that relates to superman go [frick]ing watch 10 years worth of smallville...I want superman punching and alot of action and I am happy,[frick]ing critics
Ataraxis
Ataraxis - 6/13/2013, 11:16 AM
@ dcmultiverse. I am going to this movie expecting a fresh new take, why do people expect it to be anything like donners films? God humans are so dumb.
