BOX OFFICE: Zack Snyder's MAN OF STEEL Set To Be The #1 Movie Worldwide With $200 Million

Man of Steel continues to go from strength to strength as the latest figures reveal that it is also dominating overseas as well, and is currently the #1 movie at the worldwide box office. If it lives up to expectations, the movie will have a total gross of over $200 million by close of business tomorrow.

Thanks to Deadline, we now have an update on Man of Steel's performance at the international box office. After grossing $44 million on Friday in North America, the reboot holds the honour of having the highest Friday June opening of all-time. Despite many recent unimpressive 3D conversions, audiences have flocked to see this fresh take on Superman in any format they can, although it the 3D screens which generated 42% of its total box office revenue. Unofficial projections now have Man of Steel pegged as having a four day opening of $115 - 125 million. The Zack Snyder helmed and Christopher Nolan produced movie is #1 everywhere it has opened across the world with a total of $17.6 million from 24 markets (although the running cume is said to be $25.9 million). It's performed particularly well in the UK with an impressive £3.3 million ($5.2 million). If Man of Steel continues to perform as analysts have predicted, it will have taken around $151 million by tomorrow. Of course, now we just have to wait and see how well it does in week two!

UPDATE: Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we now have some clarification. $151 million is actually Man of Steel's CURRENT worldwide cume and the movie should in fact pass $200 million by tomorrow. Not bad, eh? Do you think we'll get sequel news at the San Diego Comic Con?

Saw it last night. Wasn't impressed. There's a very good movie in there somewhere but David Goyer dropped the ball imo.

Nice to see its making money though. Hopefully Flash and wonder woman follow

RT is just an aggregate website. They don't employ or otherwise force the individual critics to give good or bad reviews.

Wonder Woman an The Flash should be the next two non Superman movies. Everything else can come after that, I don't care in what order as long as it makes sense.

I just got back from the theater. Thought it was okay. Better than Iron Man 3 and probably the best CBM of the year so far.

This movie was just kinda blah to me. I'm glad it made money so I might finally see a flash movie(please dear god keep this goyer guy away from it). Sadly thats two pretty disappointing comic movies this year and I'd actually put IM3 over this.

I think this movies main flaw was having too much action and basically no dialog. I could't really tell you anything cool that was said that wasn't in a trailer. Nor can I remember a piece of dialog that lasted over a minute between two characters.

For me this movie suffered from bad writing but more than that is suffered from too much action(exactly the opposite of Superman returns). When avengers came out Joss said in response to people asking about how much action there would be (paraphrasing) that he wasn't going to just have action for actions sake. The moments where there was a battle were nessesary and not just eye candy. I never knew exactly what Joss meant until I saw this movie. This movie used dialog as a bridge to get to action sequences when it should be the dialog that drives a movie.

Hardly surprising really - it is Superman after all! Must say that I thought overall the film was a decent effort, but like in some of Snyder's other work, the movie praised style over substance. Oh don't get me wrong, it had substance, and good little bits of emotion and interaction, but they never seemed to really spark or define the film in a strong and coherent manner. They kinda got swallowed up by the action. I like fight scenes as much as the next guy, but when at the climax they paused and started up again, I was just thinking: ...really? Cavill was great though, and I'm very interested to see where the DC-CU (?) goes next.
