It now seems like a safe bet that this year's San Diego Comic Con will see Warner Bros. confirm a Man of Steel sequel and possibly even Justice League. We do of course need to wait and see how the reboot does internationally and during its second and third weekends domestically, but as it continues to break records overseas and good word of mouth spreads at home, there should be no doubt that Man of Steel will be the first stage of the DC Cinematic Universe. Below are the latest box office figures for Man of Steel, but be sure to stay tuned to CBM for further updates!

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

STARRING:

Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman
Amy Adams as Lois Lane
Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent
Diane Lane as Martha Kent
Michael Shannon as Zod

RELEASE DATE: June 14th, 2013.

Cool, but there's a lot that they need to work on for the sequel. Cavill was great, the cast was great, but they need a new writer.

Man of Steel only proves that BB was great because of Nolan, not Goyer. The only critic I have for Snyder is that rge needs to slow down. The pacing for Man of Steel was too fast for a 2 hour 33 minute movie. We never got a chance to absorb any of the emotions and Snyder didn't use one transition shot! He just cut and moved the story along.

Goyer out, keep Snyder and hire Max Landis. He claims to be a Superman fan, he even wrote a Superman comic story.

@ BreaktheSpell - That's not saying much, the only other guy who's made a Superman movie in the 21st century is Bryan Singer.

So, hurray for a sequel, hurray for the DCCU and hurray for Man of Steel.

Also, Josh, this is the American total. This movie came out in Canada and Mexico as well and they're North American countries.

I am thoroughly confused isn't today Sunday or did I sleep through it again?

@ Breakthespell - Sorry, I liked Man of Steel, but it felt like I was watching The Amazing Superman. I liked the movie, but the collaboration between Goyer and Snyder was off.

Felt like Snyder shot the script verbatim and Goyer thought he was working with Nolan and left parts of the script up to the director to add on to, but Snyder didn't get the memo.

It just felt too fast for me...

Loved the film :)

Where was the " 'oh-my-god' cameo from someone playing a bank teller" that was mentioned in this article? :

There didn't seem to be one?

Honestly, the last years have rendered me completely desensitized to "whooping" box office numbers....

Haven't watched MoS yet.

It's only gonna be released next month here (Brazil).

Amazing film. Deserves to hit the 1 billion mark. Just wish Chris Nolan would take a larger role in the sequel.

I swear, the box office reporting for this film is like a game of three-card Monty with what individual articles do and don't include in the totals.

It's a solid start... Perhaps not spectacular, but it met realistic expectations, crushed the studio's obvious low-ball $80m estimate, and fell clearly short of the overly optimistic $140+m estimates.

Great news! Loved MOS,seen it twice. They should have a different writer for the sequel. Hoping to see Lex and Brainiac.

Anyone who thinks "It's just that, I think he's kinda hot" is good writing needs to GTFO.

Snyder wasn't the problem here, Goyer was. Unless supervised, the man is a hack. MoS turned out decent but it could've been so much more had someone better been writing.

Too many nonsensical comments to digest in this forum. Maybe the people who made them should write and direct the sequel. SM([frick]ing)H

Warner Bros. NEED to keep Snyder and Goyer and get the great Bruce Timm in there as a consultant to keep this cineamatic universe cohesive. Anyone agree?
Supes17
Supes17 - 6/16/2013, 8:13 AM
I think they should drop Goyer but at least give him a "story by" credit. Jonah Nolan should write a rough draft of the script and have Chris revise it. Snyder can stay on as director. I really liked Man of Steel's visuals and style

Great points Batmaniac I totally agree with U!

Man of Steel is best Superman movie to date & one of the best CMB I ever seen!

I have nothing agains Goyer but there should e something to help him with some stuff...But still I don't know who cause I don't want anyone to change this man of steel into Dooner's superman...i just don't.

and it's really weird to see posts like "movie was great but change the director and the writer"...what??? how the hell could you like the movie and yet you hate screenplay and direction.
Stubner
Stubner - 6/16/2013, 8:17 AM
The dialogue was the biggest problem with this flick. The pacing well...go watch The Dark Knight trilogy and get back to me with your baseless complaints. Otherwise this was a pretty damn impressive film based on a seemingly dated character. I'd like to see anyone else do better. Great flick. Can't wait to see what's next!
Masterpace
Masterpace - 6/16/2013, 8:17 AM

@HBarnill

well it depends...I didn't like Avengers that much so MoS was way better IMO.

Avengers 5/10
MoS 8/10
TDK still the best 10/10.

Some fans said- "MOS is not gonna open below 120 mil for the 3 day weekend" and that it will make 2 billion and that it will be the greatest comic book movie ever it will be in the high 80's on RT.

Like Lex said in Superman returns....WRONG!!!!

ALL hype. The film IS good and NOT great.

jcfrommars9 - 6/16/2013, 8:20 AM
@Batmaniac

Not everyone received as great of an experience out of Man of Steel as you did. While by no means did I think it was a terrible movie, I did find certain aspects that took me out of the experience. Maybe Snyder and Goyer being removed is a little extreme, but I do believe the movie needed tighter editing and scripting.
Supes17
Supes17 - 6/16/2013, 8:22 AM
And I agree with Stubner about Bruce Trimm. The guy made a successful and compelling DCAU story with the JL and JLU animated series.

Chris was successful in balancing out a team of 6-7 characters in Inception, so he has experience in that department
