Many fans despaired when it was revealed that stiff competition from Monsters University and World War Z would push Man of Steel down to third place at the North American box office. However, we have some news which should help brighten your day! Now released across 52 markets, the Zack Snyder helmed and Christopher Nolan produced reboot grossed $19.7 million yesterday giving it an overseas total of $135.6 million. Add this to its current domestic total of around $210 million as of Sunday, and Man of Steel now has an impressive worldwide cume of $345.6 million after only nine days of release. It opens in a further 27 markets this weekend, including big money countries like China (where it has so far grossed $11.7 million in two days) and Russia (where it opened with $3.15 million; a figure not too far behind that of Iron Man 3). The film has also done well in countries like France and Germany, while it will roll out to countries such as Australia, Brazil and Japan in the coming weeks and months. Stay tuned to CBM for updates!

I don't mind Goyer for story, just not screenwriter.

Also no to Snyder & Goyer working together on the script. I was a little worried when I heard they rewrote the ending because Goyer isn't great unless he's with someone and Snyder isn't suppose to be in the writing room.

Nice, looks like it'll probably do what the first Iron Man movie did. MAYBE a little more.

Good news. Putting aside this tiresome Marvel vs Dc squabble it's great to see that both Man of Steel and Iron Man 3 have set the box office alight worldwide this year. I keep reading reviews from tedious old snobs proclaiming the public is bored with superhero comic book movies and it's time to stop making them. Success like this is happily proving them all wrong!

MOS....71% drop in its second weekend....but to be honest, when you have a huge opening that number is not outrageous....IM3 also had a 71% drop in its second weekend.

IM3 had a 58% drop
MOS looks like a 63% drop
Both respectable after big openings

The 71% drop is just for Friday not the weekend
The first fri. is always huge because of midnight screenings
so the drop seems steep
