Andrew Garfield Suggests That Mary Jane Should Be Male; "Why Can’t [Peter Parker] Be Gay?"
There's been talk of changing Peter Parker's race, so why not his sexuality? In a recent interview, Andrew Garfield has revealed that he would have no problem with Sony making Mary Jane Watson a male character in order for Spidey to, "be into boys". Wha-huh?!
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Andrew Garfield has made what is sure to be a rather controversial suggestion about the direction that Sony could take Peter Parker in in future instalments of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. Apparently, he recently sat down with producer Matt Tolmach to share his thoughts on a slightly different take on the relationship between Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson. "I was kind of joking, but kind of not joking about MJ. And I was like, ‘What if MJ is a dude?’ Why can’t we discover that Peter is exploring his sexuality? It’s hardly even groundbreaking!…So why can’t he be gay? Why can’t he be into boys?" Uh, ok, but who exactly would be the right choice to play the male Mary Jane? Well, it turns out that the British actor has an idea about that as well! "I’ve been obsessed with Michael B. Jordan since The Wire. He’s so charismatic and talented. It’d be even better—we’d have interracial bisexuality!" Apparently even director Marc Webb knows of Garfield's bizarre idea for the future of the wallcrawler...what do you guys think?
