ABC Entertainment Chief Offers Update On More MARVEL And STAR WARS Adaptations

Talking at the Television Critics Association press tour today, ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee has shared his thoughts on developing their relationship with Marvel after Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. debuts and says that there have been conversations with Lucasfilm about Star Wars.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC head honcho Paul Lee understandably revealed that the network is keen on exploiting their partnerships with Marvel and Lucasfilm. "We are loving this relationship [with Marvel]," he said of this Fall's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. debut. "The relationship with Marvel and with other Disney [intellectual property] across the company is something we are ambitious to build. We have lots of little schemes in mind." He wouldn't reveal any more than that, but it's interesting to wonder what other properties - both those we've heard about and those we haven't - could be brought to the small screen. As for whether Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm means that we're about to finally see that Star Wars TV series, he added: "We have started conversations with them. I'd love to go there. I'm a particular fan of Lucasfilm. It's an amazing world." What projects would guys most like to see brought to the network?

I think Disney was the best bet for Star Wars. Who else can make it properly. Will it have themes geared towards kids? Yes, of course. Will it also have themes geared towards adults? Absolutely. Disney knows how to market, cross promote, and create great properties. Lucas knew he didn't have the heart to control it anymore, and passed the reins on to someone who could. Did he make a but load of money? Yes, but so what. Disney never does something halfassed. We'll get 6 more movies, some new rides at Disney, another cartoon series (please no Clones Wars, even my kids hated that show), and most likely the tv show we've been hearing about forever.

@The Logan - That's a cool idea, but even though Marvel doesn't have the rights to the movie, they still make money on the rights that FOX owns. The movie's success helps push the comics and toy lines. If they did do that though, I hope it would not be like that crap Mutant X was.

In 2001, 20th Century Fox sued Marvel, Tribute Entertainment, and Fireworks Entertainment for breach of their licensing agreement and false advertisement. Fox stated it had exclusive rights from Marvel to develop the X-Men property, and anything similar was an infringement. Fox claimed that Mutant X was too similar to X-Men, and Mutant X was being advertised as an "X-Men replacement."[6]

Marvel counter-sued Fox, saying that the two were dissimilar and asking the courts to allow Mutant X production to go forward. Production was allowed, as long as X-Men material was not used in the promotion of Mutant X. Apparently, the title "Mutant X" itself was deemed too close to "X-Men" to be effectively leveraged.

In 2003, Fox and Marvel resolved their differences in a confidential settlement of their suits. Meanwhile, Fox continued to pursue their case against Tribune and Fireworks. Tribune sued Marvel for fraud and breach of contract, claiming Marvel encouraged Tribune to connect Mutant X to the X-Men, misrepresented what they were getting in their license, and caused millions in losses due to the need to alter story lines and characters to ensure the mandated distance between Mutant X and X-Men, as well as fighting Fox's litigation.

Star Wars stopped being any good the minute the end credits faded away on the Empire Strikes Back.

Since then all we've gotten is contrived visual spectacles designed to showcase new lines of toys and merchandise sales. Lol, Lucas even apologized to Hasbro for the SW toys not selling as well as expected after TPM, he said he'd do better with more designs and characters with Attack of the Cloves and he did. Those films never had so much nonsensical characters and veichles onscreen ever.

I don't see why Disney having the rights to Star Wars is a bad thing at all. Disney owns Pixar and Marvel, and both of those studios have been for the most part consistent about putting out quality films. If you ask me, Disney was the best place Star Wars could go, they really go hand in hand if you ask me. I think Kathleen knows what she's doing. JJ is a talented director, Star Trek Into Darkness is my favorite film this year, and Micahel Ardnt is a talented writer, this film is in good hands. I have faith Agents Of SHIELD is gonna be a great show, and I'd love to see a Star Wars show on ABC.

LOL @Levi like Lucas didn't ruin star wars with the prequels. You can't really get much worse than that. I thank Disney for buying it so we can actually get more movies with no jar jar and no whiney ass Ani... Seriously Lucas took one of the most iconic villains of all time and made him a momma's boy cry baby. What can Disney do worse???

When Disney bought out Lucasfilm did they also get the rights to Indiana Jones? That could make a good tv series ( like Relic Hunter only better because it's not made in Canada ). Also seeing that Hobbits and the like do well at the box office they could also reboot Willow ( even though the original has a kinda cult like status ).
