Disney Tease Plans For The STAR WARS Franchise Moving Forward; Promise "Origin Story" Films

Disney's Chief Financial Officer Jay Rasulo talks more about their plans for the Star Wars franchise moving forward, promising that they fully plan on exploiting the brand in terms of merchandise in 2015. He also reiterates plans for "origin story" films every other year. Read on for details!

While it's hard to imagine that Disney will ever regret their $4 billion purchase of Lucasfilm, Chief Financial Officer Jay Rasulo told investors at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference, in Beverly Hills that "of all our worries, 'Star Wars' is not one of them," adding that the market is extremely hot for everything 'Star Wars,'". He also said they have no concerns that today's youngsters won't be familiar with the brand when J.J. Abrams' Star Wars Episode VII is released in 2015. Unsurprisingly, as has always been the case for this particular property, Disney are planning on releasing a huge range of merchandise appealing to any and all demographics for the movie, while it's likely that Star Wars' presence will soon be felt in their theme parks too. However, the overall strategy is "to put out a great film" first, and Rasulo reiterated that we will see either a Star Wars trilogy instalment or "origin story films" on a yearly basis moving forward. Oh, and as for whether or not Disney are planning to buy any other high profile franchises or studios, they're not looking right now...but they ARE open to the idea if the right deal comes along! What are your thoughts on these comments?

Star Wars Origins no thanks pass I didn't need to see han solo pass and how he became a badass it was already said in dialogue that's why it there. I don't really want to see the kessel run because if it sucks I be that was the Kassel run all disappointed and stuff. no young kid can be ass badass as Harrison ford as Han I like young Indy but this is over kill on the star wars front. How about movies about new charters in different time before ep 1 or in between ep 3 and 4. But that's just me.

I'd love stand alone films, just not on any main characters. I don't want to see a character I've enjoyed get ruined. Do any of you really want to see a Yoda, Han Solo with some crappy actor replacing Ford, or having Fett get bastardized like they did to Maul in that horrible Clone Wars cartoon? I would prefer stand alone films on unkown characters like a jedi knight from the old republic, a bounty hunter, a smuggler, Darth Bane, whatever. Make it an unkown or a character that was in the background of one of the movies.

The StarWars books: Tales from Jabba's Palace, Tales of the Bounty Hunters, Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina, ect. are perfect examples of how you can take unkown characters and give their stories. Even better, have all the solo movies connect some how as passing characters in the background.

Star Wars Land, a Disney park where you could go to Endor, Tatooine, Hoth, Dagobah, Naboo, etc. A park where you could board the Millenium Falcon and take pictures of all these places like you're really there. That has got to be cool. Can you imagine walking into Mos Eisley Cantina with all those aliens and order something.

How about an origin movie for the Mos Eisley Cantina band? They could detail the younger years of the band and their popularity before they fell into a hard life of drugs and ended up at rock bottom in the Tatooine desert...

Nooooo Han Solo origin movie!! It is possible to pull of a Yoda origin but still risky. They are better off sticking to the episodes to further the Star Wars story line, and or, go WAY back to the Dawn of the Jedi Era showing the birth of the republic, and the formation of the Jedi and Sith.

Fett Fans, remember the tv show had a young Fett chasing someone through out the series. Disney will most likely want to start these up once the movies are out. So we can probably get more Fet that way.

@ fettastic & ruadh - My son's 4 now, and he'll be 6 when the movie comes out. Me and my wife have been smart and we buy my son a vehicle around his birthday and another around Christmas. Few figures here and there also. This way when he wants to play, we won't be dumping a couple thousand bucks to get him vehicles and figures to play with to fill the StarWars Uni. Remember how hard it was when we were kids with 1 storm trooper. He dies, you pick him back up, he dies, you pick him back up again. We just opened the Death Star Trench Run with Luke's X-wing and Vader's Tie, and the BAM Falcon. When he gets bored or when the snow starts we plan on opening his At-At and Snow Troopers.

Wah wah wah, Disney will ruin Star Wars, wah wah wah! Bunch of babies. Be grateful that we're getting more of the brand we love. Origin stories? Bring it on. I WON'T. KNOCK IT UNTIL I SEE THEM. But then again, I'm normal, not a trolling freak, so what do I know.

I don't think anyone is "Wah wah wah"ing that Disney will ruin Star Wars. I think some of us are hoping for more stories to expand the universe as compared to beating a horse until it's dead with popular characters for the solo movies.
