Promising a realistic take on the iconic legendary character, Brett Ratner's take on the Hercules: The Thracian Wars graphic novel is shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2014. With a cast which includes the likes of Ian McShane, Joseph Fiennes, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal and John Hurt, it certainly seems to have all the right ingredients to be a great summer blockbuster. However, it's leading man Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson who is building hype for the movie with a series of production photos released via his Twitter account. Here's the latest...

Everyone knows the legend of Hercules and his twelve labors. Our story begins after the labors, and after the legend. Haunted by a sin from his past, Hercules has become a mercenary. Along with five faithful companions, he travels ancient Greece selling his services for gold and using his legendary reputation to intimidate enemies. But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules’ help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail… he must again become the hero he once was… he must embrace his own myth… he must be Hercules.

I would rather see the twelve labors instead of this story line.

Massive isn't the word I'd be using for the setpiece we see in this particular picture either. The sky looks great, and I'm quite interested in seeing more of this movie! :)

I may have to pass on this one unless I hear something VERY incredible. I don't want a "realistic" Hercules. I want a superhumanly strong son of Zeus

They might as well make the Rock head of the marketing department cuz I don't see how they're going to get people to spend money at the theater to watch a brett ratner flick.

Don't care. The Rock sucks and this shouldn't classify as a comic book movie since the character existed a few thousand years before any comic book was invented.

@Zippiesdrainage

Dude, greek and roman myths were the comics of that age. For that reason and for the reason that there are Hercules comic books makes it a comic based movie.

I honestly think that looks awesome! I would probably give my left nut to be an extra on that set. Dressing up in hoplite armor and getting to walk around in a replica of Ancient Greek buildings! Nerdgasm!
