RUMOR: Success Of AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Renews Talk Of A STAR WARS TV Series

The massive success of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC (and various international networks) has apparently resulted in renewed talks of developing a live-action Star Wars TV series; however, it may not be as dark as originally planned. Read on for details!

When Disney purchased Lucasfilm for $4 billion, plans for a Star Wars TV series seemingly became even more unlikely than they already were. After all, it had been stuck in development hell for a number of years, but plans for a new trilogy of movies put the project on hold indefinitely. Well, according to Blue Sky Disney, Disney are now reconsidering plans to bring the Galaxy Far, Far Away to the small screen. According to the site, "it might not be the dark brooding adventure that was described. There is talk going on, but nothing definite yet as to what a new series could entail. In fact, it may not even happen in the time it was originally set. Again, preliminary talks are still going on so many things could change but right now there's a debate as to whether or not a television show would take place in between the Prequel Trilogy and the Original Trilogy, or should they go forward with a series that's between the Original Trilogy and the Sequel Trilogy. This way they could play on the new mythos this new trilogy is creating." However, they also stress that the series once known as Star Wars: Underworld is simply being discussed at this point and that there are no definite plans as of yet. Regardless, the massive success of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has clearly shown them that there's potential for big screen franchises to be spun off to television, so stay tuned for further updates on this possible project!

Star Wars The Clone Wars was amazing.

@ManOfReal- They made up one character so far, relax. They'll keep a nice mix going, enough known characters to keep people satisfied.

...not to mention, the general public doesn't know "made up character" from "d-list character" anyways.

It's gonna happen eventually. Probably in about 3 or 4 years from now.

I'd love to see one take place around the new movies. No more Clone Wars!

If AOS is any indication then chances are it wont be that good, I wanted a SHIELD show to show us the seedy underbelly of the MCU, a world of espionage filled with lying, back stabbing and all that good spy stuff we know and love. Instead we got CSI: SHIELD.

Is it to much to ask for the MCU to have 1 single [frick]ing thing thats a bit darker and takes itself more seriously? Is that REALLY too much to ask for?

So is the new mentality: if it's not Breaking Bad, its shit?

Because you people have standards that will never even come close to being matched.

Although I hated AOS too.

@ekrolo2 - Wait for the Winter Soldier for that ;)

Also the ending of the pilot was BS, I was so pleasantly surprised when Ward decided to shoot him in the head but he had a change of heart that literally came from nowhere.

How the piss did he survive getting shot in the head btw? If that was some antidote then he should have shot him in the neck or something. Lodging a needle shoot in your brain is probably gonna have the same outcome as having a bullet in your brain.

@Kingdork

Nothing Ive seen or heard has given me any indication that it wont be another family comedy with Marvel heroes in it.

@ekrolo2 - I saw the Comic Con trailer and it was badass. Sure the movie won't go full TDK, but I sensed some pretty deep stuff in those 5 minutes. You really get the sense that they delved into that world of espionage filled with lies and back-stabbing. And Cap's not comfortable with that. What I saw was really promising.

@Charlie2094

Theres no way in hell Marvel would have the balls to do a legit Punisher show, I mean these are the guys who completely [frick]ed over a potentially badass spy series akin to the Americans with all the back stabbing and politics in favor of a CSI knock off.

I know its over simplifying when I say all Marvel does now in live action is light hearted stuff but Iron Man 1 had a perfect mix of serious and fun, none of their movies since then have been able to properly replicate this. IM3 tried to do this but it failed miserable on the serious and character development levels.

@Kingdork

I don't trust Marvel trailers anymore after IM3, that movie also looked like a serious look into what Tony was going through after Avengers and up until the mansion attack the film worked, once the mansion attack happened my brain cells started dying from the sheer [frick]ing stupidity and piss poor writing going on in front of me (and no its not just the Mandarin twist that bothered me).

Besides trailers are supposed to make everything look great, a bad trailer is one that fails to make the movie or video game look appealing, they're not meant to represent the actual quality of the end product, they're just there to impress you enough in order to spend money on it.

God, so much b**ching on this site its almost unreadable. As a comic book fan, its depressing to come on here just to see people continuously crap on everything. There was a time not long ago where live action comic book shows and universes were a dream. I'm not saying AoS is perfect but no one wants to even give the damn thing a chance to find its legs. Relax and try to see the good in something every now and then..jeez

@ ekrolo2 - I agree that the IM3 trailers sold a different movie. BUT, the result of IM3 is akin to Shane Black's personality and style. He has his fingerprints all over the movie. On the other hand, the Russos bros who are in charge of Cap 2, are HUGE fans of Captain America (they have like a 60,000 $ comic book collection) and they also said they like some post-modern stuff and brought some of that into the movie. Plus, you have Ed Brubaker vouching for them, calling the script "[frick]in' fantastic", saying that he would have done exactly what they did... That's high praise from the guy who created the Winter Soldier and gave us one of the best run of Captain America. You didn't hear that kind of praise from Warren Ellis when they based IM3 on his Extremis book. So I'm pretty confident on that one.

@Kingdork

I'm sticking to what I said before, [frick] all pre-release bullshit like trailers and the cast saying how amazing it all is, once I see the finished product then ill decide how I feel about a movie.

Ive been burned by pre-release and hyping up bullshit to many times in the past and frankly I don't care if the people making it are fans (they always so they are) or if the writer is giving his blessing or any of that stuff. Once it comes out ill make sure to tell you how I felt about it and until then I'm staying as neutral and unaffected by pre-release promises and hype as I can.

Maybe if they just put a Star Wars Show on the CW network they wont have to worry too much about it being a hit. We all know it only takes three viewer to make a hit show for the CW.

I want a SW tv show that takes place a thousand years AFTER Jed! Something fresh and new and risky. People complain about Hollywood rehashing old ideas and then demand what they know and feel safe with and when they get it complain it wasn't exactly what they wanted. Imagination takes guts and the creators of SW need to show some.

I would love for Marvel to make some "darker" films but in reality we have to remember that Disney is putting their stamp all over the MCU.. The only way they'll change their formula is if it stops working for them.. It's frustrating at times but I am happy they're making tons of CBMs.. They can't please everyone..
