COMICS: WOLVERINE Gets A New Costume And ANOTHER Relaunch Next February

Because Marvel have seemingly developed a new policy that none of their books should reach double digits, Wolverine will be getting ANOTHER #1 issue next year, along with a bizarre sounding new status quo and costume. Hit the jump for details and artwork!

"The first arc is called "Payback," and that's where we find him: working for a crime boss called The Offer, alongside a "family" of low-rent super villains. Following the end of "Killable," he's decided to simplify his life and drop his responsibilities. The Offer is a minor super villain gang boss who has the power to make the best possible offer. It's not hypnotism; you're free to turn him down. But his offers tend to make people think twice. He's a caring, fatherly presence to his gang, but he's not really a good man.

His gang includes Pinch, who Logan is in a relationship with, who can pull threads from any material; Fuel, who increases powers, and thus can make Logan move at high speed; and the Lost Boy, who can make anything ignite, and who has a complicated attitude towards what heroism and villainy might be. Logan worries about him. He's now wearing an armor which keeps the shape of his old uniform, but it has, worryingly for readers who've been paying attention, samurai influences, too. He's now carrying a pair of handguns, and fighting hand-to-hand in a different way. He will indeed be using the claws less frequently."

ANOTHER reboot.

Geez Marvel. Remember the good old days when a comic could actually make it to issue 20 without getting renumbered.

This is confusing as frick with all these number ones.

Marvel just threw up all over itself.
So much for the notion of "killing off Wolverine."

They don't even try anymore. Not even a year's hiatus before "bringing someone back."

There was a time when they actually gave a fig about these characters. Character development, continuity.... non-lazy writing..... not deliberately pimping itself out for a buck....

Thooose were the daaaays.....

I'll be picking it up. I guess this confirms his healing factor is "permanently" disabled? Should be interesting.

It's amazing how Marvel likes to screw things up,the only thing missing now is daredevil getting his vision back.

Wolverine with a gun is like giving an Iraqi terrorist a butterknife.

It's ultimately useless.

Art looks 'Joe Mad'ish but not as good.

Overall... meh

I like the direction wolvie is going in. The lose of his hf was the best thing that could happen to him. Let's face it the character was getting stale, especially after origins ended. Tired of writers using him as a pin cushion, and having him jump into every situation like a bullet sponge. Even after the repeated character progression of him being more bad ass when he is in control of himself. It's like writers build him up to the point where he is this focused skilled warrior. Then switch writers, and he is back to square one again, going into a rage at the drop of a dime every issue.

didn't need a reboot.

Marvel, if you are so adamant about constantly renumbering your comics and changing the status-quo of every single character, you might as well reboot your universe like DC.

Remember when Marvel cared more about their comics than any adaptations? Good times.

I wish they would grow some balls and get some old-school storytellers back. My apologies, but it seems like they hand over the reins to kids who only kinda-sorta know the characters nowdays.

This is a billion-dollar industry. I think a prerequisite for any writer who takes over ANY character/team, what have you... a condition of their employment should be that they read each and every issue that's ever been published on said character[s].

Yup, that means you've gotta read all of the Fantastic Four from issue #1 if you wanna write for the FF.
You want the job, right?? So know your GD characters! Inside and out! What... you've gotta sit up for a few weeks and actually READ? You want the damned job or not? Read the friggin storylines! Know the charachetrs!

It's painfully obvious that the cats who write these things are embarrassingly under-prepared. The rape hurts so bad --- the last 10ish years have been wack.

I actually ripped a comic book in half --- I don't remember the title/issue... but at the end of the story it had Wolverine and Phoenix [the 'real' one] standing in some heaven-made garden embracing in some ridiculous corny kiss. Just had to rip the sh*t in half.

I would love it if someone did Marvel a favor by starting a fan page where people could point out just how badly they piss all over their own characters, with thoughtful, insightful reference points to examine.

this is why marvel makes no sense. If you get rid of his healing factor wolverine will die from the admin. poisoning, he can't release his claws because they burst through the skin and will not only would they shred his hands the blood loss, and infection would mess him up. Also if the new suit is armor then it will weigh him down and on top of the bones he won't be able to move. The healing factor allowed his muscle mass to compensate for the bones and claws also keeps his muscles from tiring out. Also the healing factor slowed down his aging. So if it goes he should start rapidly aging and well be useless. MARVEL is going to eventually run off its fan base and scrap the comic division and just make movies. The mouse will not allow dead weight to the company.

@fortycals I agree with you about the character not needing to be a bullet sponge, but I don't think you needed to take away his healing factor and give him a gun for that. You can right a wise, introspective Wolverine who still retains the healing factor in my opinion. Great writers have done it.
