Did ZERO DARK THIRTY's Jessica Chastain Pass On The Lead Female Role In ANT-MAN?

While commitments to another movie now means that she is no longer in the mix, rumour has it that Marvel Studios were at one point keen to have Zero Dark Thirty and Interstellar star Jessica Chastain play the lead female role in Edgar Wright's Ant-Man...

According to the ever reliable Elmayimbe of Latino-Review, Jessica Chastain was at one point being considered for the lead female role in Edgar Wright's Ant-Man. Common sense says that it will be Janet Van Dyne, a.k.a. The Wasp, a part which I Love You Man's Rashida Jones has already been rumoured to be up for. As of right now, Paul Rudd and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are the only candidates we know of in the running for the titular role of the pint-sized superhero. What we do now know is that Jessica Chastain will sadly NOT be in the movie. Check out the Tweets below...

If elmayimbe says it, I guess it means she was never up for the role. At all.

She could have been an interesting choice for the movie. I could have seen this part boosting her career. She is a great actress and I can only see good things for her. I could also see her pass on the movie because even though it would help her in the movie business it is not the direction she wants to go in Hollywood..

she's better off as jean grey.

@BlackIceJoe First of all, how could her career be any more boosted than it already is? And secondly, how would a part in Ant-Man have helped anyway?

she was in mama as well which was surprising. hardly recognized her with black hair, looking all emo.

but damn thats kind of unfortunate for the franchise. shes probably one of best actresses out there today.

Nice pointless accusation.
That's pretty much the same as saying Will Ferrel was in for the role of Collector but instead went for Anchorman 2.
Get it? Both lies.

She had to drop out of Iron Man 3...she'll be in the Marvel Studios film soon enough. One of the best actresses in this generation.

She was great in "The Help." Would rather have sexy little Rashida though.

@TheYoungMan

The reason I said that is because with doing the Marvel films you get your name more out there to the general public. Instead of just doing lesser blockbuster films.

She was great in The Help, and Mama too but not many people if you showed a picture of her to them would know who she is. But with doing the Marvel films more people take a notice of you. Even though you really don't get to show your acting range as much as other lesser known films the general public know you more now and want to see more of you on screen.

She would've been a great wasp, I don't know too much about Rashida Jones, but if she is up for the part I'm hoping she'll do pretty good. I hated Mama but Chastain was great in it, the only thing I liked about it. Am I the only one who thought she looked way hotter with the black short haired emo look in that film than how she actually looks. Kinda like how Sandra Bullock looks hotter as a blonde in The Blind Side than as a brunette in real life.

Rashida Jones should get this. Hoping for it atleast.

Wouldn't she be too old for Janet? I mean..if you think about it...Janet Van Dyne is supposed ot be like a Paris Hilton/Kim Kardashian type of socialite fashionista. They ought to cast a girl of suitable and credible age for that.

Seriously though if I was an actor even if I did want to work with Marvel I'd stay away from Ant-man.

"Help boost her career"

Dafuq are people talking about, Chastain is already getting big and lead roles in films, in addition to being a critically acclamimed actress so it doesn't matter if she passed on the role if the rumor is indeed true, this isn't some unknown actress who's looking for her big break.

I'm just honestly trying to figure out what makes people think that being in a Marvel movie will automatically boost or make your career.

Everyone wanting Ant-Man news has to wait for 2014. Feige said the new films (Beyond Phase 2) will have official information next year.

@JatevinM I mean, just ask Edward Norton and Terrance Howard, hehe :)

Methinks Marvel might be better off scrapping this flick...it just does not sound like it will fit in with what they have going on right now with the larger MCU and the Phases. If Ant-Man had been Phase 1 it would have worked but they waited too long and now it's wonky.

But now it's news when they pass on one?

Good. I'm not very fond of this actress. There's something 'fake' about her. I dont know if it's her performance or her personality but it's something.
Hopefully the studio chooses someone worthy.

Ok Wilding, what is with this nonsense of describing elMayimbe as "ever reliable"? What, are you his publicist? Is he paying you to promote how awesome his rumors are? When was the last time a studio or producer or director or actor/actress confirmed one of his "scoops"? And no, trades such as Variety or The Wrap don't count. Tell you what, once elMayimbe has at least 5 out of his ten most recent rumors confirmed by the makers of a movie or actors/actresses, then maybe we can call him the "50% reliable" elMayimbe. To get to "ever reliable," he should have 70%-80% of his rumors comfirmed.

Why is everyone assuming she was up for the Wasp? She could've just been up for Scott Lang's ex-wife.

Besides I don't blame her, especially if the latter. Why take such a part when in the near future she could instead be offered Ms./Captain Marvel and be the star of her own popcorn franchise?

Wolf38 - 11/17/2013, 3:43 PM
Hmmm. I don't how to put it, other than that Rashida Jones, while seemingly friendly and talented, is the most boring/bland actress in the world to me. Thus I would rather she not play Wasp.

Jessica Chastain would be cool, but if not her, there must be someone else other than Jones. Please.
