Variety reveals that Warner Bros. are finally moving ahead with their long-in-development adaptation of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips' Sleeper. The series was published through DC's Vertigo imprint, and is "set in noir universe where a few people are spontaneously developing superpowers — follows Holden Carver, a man who can absorb pain and pass it on to others, as he infiltrates a criminal organization on behalf of a law enforcement agency. His allegiances come into question, especially when he falls for the alluring killer, Miss Misery." No director or actors have been attached at this point, although Ben Affleck and Matt Damon will be producing the movie. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. have hired Shawn Ryan (The Shield) and David Wiener (Last Resort) to pen the screenplay. Do you guys like the sound of the movie?

I'd rather see The Losers sequel or an Hellblazer reboot/sequel instead if they had to go with Vertigo stuff

DC is really relying on their bench. I think they want to immortalize someone or a group in their little-known section if their roster like Marvel did with GOTG. It worries me because it could be the the A-list is being passed over. Marvel Studios didn't have a lot of choice to employ this strategy because their best franchise rights arguably were with other studios.

I have no issue with Red, The Losers, etc., and Brubaker is a hell of a writer but seriously? DC/WB need to get a move on.... Take risks, quit wasting time on these C list stories and focus on the big picture stuff.

@Gambit Re-read what you said. You want Warner Bros to take risks and put the A-listers (who WILL bring money), but you don't think it's a risk for them to develop a film on a "c-list" story? Lol Talk about the irony.

When Warner Bros. announces a new Superman or Batman movie: "What? Another one! Do something new WB!"

When Warner Bros announces a film based on a different comic book: "Why are you wasting time! Do your DCCU already!"

Can't please these people.

Darth258 - 11/21/2013, 6:44 PM
@yonny616: C list are more of a calculated risk since it won't be a high budget movie like an A list would be, and having Affleck producing might get some money.
Atleast that's my logic.

@Jollem: I was talking more about the box office income for the company, not movie quality, Iron Man 3 had a billion dollar more than GL with the same budget cost.
TheGambitFreak
TheGambitFreak - 11/21/2013, 7:04 PM
@yonny616 These Vertigo titles are guaranteed sleeper hits. Decent names attached and according release dates make for a promising income. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck? Shoot, that'll get asses in seats. It's not irony, it's attention to box office history. You can keep beating around the bush, fiddling with minor films or go all in and bite your nails as you wait for the weekend box office numbers, something WB/DC have yet to perform.

Sounds like Intruder is throwing grapefruits, stick a fork in him he is done!

Anyways this is great news, this only confirms that they will have DC's core characters on the big screen soon if they adapting odd characters like this.
JamesMan
JamesMan - 11/21/2013, 7:16 PM
According to Intruder if a film is a little more serious and darker it's emo. So I guess films like The Graduate, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Skyfall, Red Dagon, Silence of the Lambs, Insomnia, Memento, etc. are all emo. I'm sorry some people prefer different films than you.

Concept sounds quite interesting. Shawn Ryan did good with The Shield.

"When Warner Bros. announces a new Superman or Batman movie: "What? Another one! Do something new WB!"

LMAO so true, dont mind these tools.
